3G Usb Dongle For Windows laptop?

Featured Replies

Hello, sorry if this a repeat but I've just returned to Bkk/Pattaya for a 1 month stay and would like some advice on the best/fastest deal on this. Any suggestions? TIA.

Why waste 3 - 4000 THB on a dongle technology of yesterdays, when it an be had for cheaper ?

Do you have a smartphone ? Just get an DTAC, TRUE or AIS prepaid unlimited internet 4 Giga SIM card for 799 THB per month, and connect your laptop by tethering with your smartphone ( tethering by hotspot).

Your smartphone IS the dongle !

Not got a smartphone, but what do you think would be the cheapest one that'd do the job?

Thanks for your reply.

You can buy a 3G aircard for about 600b. A 4G one will be about 2-3k.

4G speed is an illusion anyway as some places even here in Metropolitan BKK don't even get a real 3G...... signed up for a new plan few days ago only to find out that at 95% of the time, I am on EDGE only . Cancelled already :-/

SAMSUNG GALAXY ACE 4 (G313H) CHARCOAL GREY (3G 850/2100MHZ)

goes for 3590 THB at most shops

or

LENOVO A680 ANDROID 4.2 SMARTPHONE 5.0" DUAL-SIM BLACK (3G 900/2100MHZ)

goes for around 3690 THB

...and yes, don't get any 4G deals . . . . .they are still dreaming about speed mobile internet here. You can call yourself lucky if you ever receive 3G speed. A 3G prepaid SIM is doable from 599 THB upward and will enable you to receive mobile internet. However you will first need to learn how to use a smartphone if you never before had one. . . .

12Gb on AIS 3G in Chiang Mai cost me Bt895 I think, but I used it quite quickly downloading at up at 1.4Mb/s.

Yes, buy a cheap "3G" ("3.6 Mb" or "7.2 Mb") dongle, preferrably an unbranded from the manufacturer Huawei (90% plus are from this company anyway).

Anything else IS a waste of money, falling into the marketing trap (4G bla bla, 42 Mbps, 100 Mbps).

All utopistic. Be happy if you reach more than 3 Mbit/s.

The branded sticks (Huawei with some "AIS", "DTAC" etc. print on) just have useless software attached.

E.g. a Huawei E169 3G 7.2 Mb. Completely sufficient.

BTW: unlocked "surf sticks" from Europe will work here too (just a Thai SIM required).

(never do roaming!!!)

SIM locked sticks can probably be unlocked here.

If you have one, take it with you for a try.

EDIT: no reliable source for the price. Any "7.2 M" is sufficient.

Thanks for that, though I'll pass on the Samsung as they're on my boycott list.

The reason I've resisted getting a smartphone is for the simple reason that I mainly use phones for texting and a smartphone has no buttons that you can text one-handed with, very handy when on a bus or train when the other hand is grabbing on to the handrail. I guess I'll eventually be forced to buy one when the older ones are phased out but hopefully that won't be in the near future.
