Multi-Vehicle Pile-Up in Saraburi Leaves One Dead, Four Injured
Pictures from responders. A devastating nine-vehicle collision on Mittraphap Road in Muak Lek district, Saraburi province, has left one person dead and four others injured, including an eight-year-old girl. Authorities are now investigating the cause of the collision. The crash occurred at kilometre 29 on the inbound lane towards Saraburi. Among the vehicles involved were a saloon car, pickup trucks, a 10-wheel lorry, a raw milk tanker, and an 18-wheel articulated lorry carrying rice. The driver of the 18-wheeler, who collided with the rear of a 10-wheel lorry, was trapped inside his cab. Despite rescue workers’ efforts to free him using hydraulic cutting tools, he succumbed to his injuries before he could be extracted. He has been identified as Mr. Rewat 47. The other four injured victims were travelling in a burgundy Isuzu pickup truck. Among them were a young girl (8), two women with minor injuries, and the girl’s mother, who was critically wounded and rushed to Kaeng Khoi Hospital. The others received first aid at the scene before being taken to Muak Lek Hospital. The collision led to severe traffic congestion, with oil leaking from the damaged vehicles onto the road. Emergency services worked quickly to clear the wreckage and restore the flow of traffic. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage and dashcam recordings to determine the cause of the crash. Preliminary reports suggest that a combination of wet road conditions due to rain and poor visibility may have contributed to the pile-up. A car driver involved in the crash reported that while approaching the scene, he noticed vehicles already at a standstill. As he attempted to steer away and stop, his car was suddenly struck by an oncoming lorry. Police from Muak Lek Police Station, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Wanlop Anwong, are continuing their inquiries and have called in the drivers involved for questioning. Further investigations will focus on whether speeding, driver error, or road conditions played a role in the deadly crash. -- 2025-03-14 -

Jealous Ex-Husband Sets Woman on Fire After Reconciliation Plea Rejected
Picture of arrest. A 43-year-old man has been arrested in Nakhon Ratchasima after allegedly dousing his ex-wife with petrol and setting her on fire when she refused to reconcile with him. The victim, a 40-year-old street vendor, suffered severe burns covering more than 70% of her body and remains in critical condition. Police apprehended the suspect, Mr. Chanasorn, outside a house in Sarai Subdistrict, Chum Phuang District. The arrest was carried out under an arrest warrant issued by Roi Et Provincial Court for attempted murder. When officers found him, he was reportedly highly intoxicated, crying uncontrollably, and unable to provide a coherent statement. According to police reports, the suspect had previously been in a relationship with Ms. Kanya but was unemployed and refused to contribute financially. After enduring threats and intimidation, she ended the relationship. Despite their separation, Mr. Chanasorn repeatedly attempted to reconcile, but Ms. Kanya firmly rejected him. On 12 March, he confronted her again, and when she refused his advances, he allegedly poured petrol over her and set her alight. Witnesses alerted emergency services, and she was rushed to hospital with life-threatening burns. Given the brutality of the crime, police launched an urgent manhunt and traced the suspect to Chum Phuang District, Nakhon Ratchasima. Upon arrest, he was too intoxicated to answer questions and was immediately transferred to Phon Thong Police Station in Roi Et for further interrogation. Authorities have confirmed that he will face prosecution under the law, with police vowing to ensure justice for the victim. -- 2025-03-14 -
