My 5 year license expired about 2 years ago, would someone be able to offer advise on below.

1. Go to immigration to get proof of residence ( some type of bill with address )

2. Medical cert from a clinic

3. Some photo's for L & T people

4. Passport for L & T people

Am I missing anything?

Questions.

1. Will I get a new 5 year license or must I get 1 year 1st?

2. Can I do all this on 30 day tourist stamp?

3. Will I need to sit a test or only the 'brake' and 'eyesight' test? ( I have a UK license )

4. Should I show them my 5 year license, any benefit doing this?

Thanks in advance

Your 5 year license has expired too long, so you'd have to do it all over.

Better not to show and convert your UK license to a Thai one, saves you doing the practical test.

You will get a new 5 year licence but without your UK licence and a supporting IDP you will have to do the full testing.

One gets a new 5 year license on renewal of the present 5 year license. Since I think his has expired too long he can't do that.

The alternative is to apply for a new license, which will be a 1-year license.

A German friend who recently returned to Thailand for work renewed his expired 5 year license (it had been expired for 4 years) and they gave him a 5 year license. with his German license an IDP he was all sorted in a hour. This was at the Au Udon DLT.

If you only have a 30 visa exempt stamp, you will only get a 1 year licence, no matter what. That is the current policy.

So basically with a British license on a 30 day stamp I can get a 1 year license without doing the FULL theory test?

Without an IDP to accompany your UK licence there is a good chance you will have to do the full theory test. Not all DLT's insist on the IDP but a lot do.

Last time I did it in Pattaya when I got my first 1 year Thai license I only had to show my British license, no theory.

Hopefully it's the same again this time....

It is one of the 2: either he renewed his 5 year license or he applied based on his German license.

He renewed his 5 year license,

As it was expired for more than 12 months he was required to sit the full tests. He produced his German licence and IDP. he then only had to do the eye tests and they then gave him another 5 year license.

If he was apply fresh for a licence they would have only given him the 1 year temporary licence.
