Which Bangkok hotels have the fastest Wi-Fi?

Anyone that travels to Thailand and spends time in hotels around the nation’s capital will know that Wi-Fi can be a bit of a hit-and-miss affair. But new statistics show the fastest speeds at selected hotels in the capital, and it clearly shows that some are much better than others.

There is no doubt that hotel internet speeds are all over the shop, but:-

Exactly how was this speed measured?

Hotel occupancy rate?

Hotel guests on line at the time?

Hotel backbone connection speed?

Without these significant variables being taken into account the stats. are meaningless.

The Admiral Suites could have been empty with a 25mbps connection to the internet, the Hilton full with a gigabit backbone connection.

I recall staying in small 800 baht a night resort in Kanchaburi where i appeared to be one of the only guests and expereinced my fastest torrent download speeds ever whereas a stay in one of the pay nearly a grand for internet extra on top of the 8000 a night 5 stars on Suk took nearly 30 mins for my outlook inbox to load

Agree mca.

I travel extensively in the region, the five star hotels (Hilton et al) invariably charge the earth for mediocre (or plain carp) connections whereas the little guest houses give you a blistering connection for free, mid range (<>$100 a night) places tend to fall in the middle.

Part of the reason is that the big outfits have the means to limit your connection speed which the little guys don't. They may have a quick connection to the internet but in order to 'be fair' to all guests they limit everyone to 2 megs (or whatever). Why they can't use the facilities of their internet access software to divide the available bandwidth between the online guests I really don't know. Whenever I've asked the response is 'corporate policy' or some equally inane answer :(

I loathe people who check onto hotels just to do torrent downloading.

Cheap azz feckers.

I also nick their lighbulbs :)

From my experience, for sure the Mandarin Oriental. A speedtest gave me there 100/100 Mb......guess more wasnt possible, as the networkport was 100 Mb....

The North Koreans are keen on the St. Regis when they need a really good and fast connection.

Is it true that the recent Sony hack was done from a Bangkok hotel ?
