Drivng in UK with thai licence

Featured Replies

I will soon be returning to the UK and as my UK driving license needs to be updated re. address/photo etc. I think perhaps it may be better to use my Thai driving license until i have sorted things out.

Will i be able to hire a car with Thai license or do i need some international part. If so how is this obtained.

Thanks for any advice :)

Yes you can hire a car with it with no problem and you can use your Thai licence legally for upto a year within the UK.

Is the uk still valid, if so use that and just renew at post office while there, if you receive any speed fines etc, whilst on a Thai licence you will have to go to court, and your uk licence will still get the points.

can hire with Thai licence

Moved to Motoring.

Yes, completely correct provided your UK license is not valid any more. If it is still valid, your post is not completely clear for that, you are required to drive on your UK license.

If you have a 5-year driving license you are OK, but if you have a temporary 1-year license it's only good within Thailand.
