Jatuporn sentenced to 2 years jail for insulting Abhisit

BANGKOK: -- The Criminal Court sentenced redshirt leader Jatuporn Prompan for two years in jail for insulting former Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva in a speech five years ago.

The court considered that Jatuporn's speech on October 11, 2010 at the Victory Monument and on October 17 of the same year against Abhisit were not the truth and could thus be considered as defamatory.

Jatuporn is ordered to post the court's sentence in the Thaipost, Matichon and Daily News newspapers for seven days.

Jatuporn's lawyer asked for bail for his client and submitted Bt20,000 as a guarantee. He said Jatuporn would certainly submit the case to Appeals Court.

And the Red Shirts are going down right and left. Keep knocking 'em down newly NON-elected government and you will never have a reconciliation.

"...finding him guilty of defaming former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva..."

Defamation laws are one of the most unjust laws in this country in that they send people to jail for "words". In Western countries this just amounts to a civil lawsuit involving money.

I agree with your view on the defamation laws, but this animal Jatuporn is a special case and for the good of the country should be locked up, for good.

If reconciliation means allowing people like Jatuporn to get away with crimes that any "ordinary" Thai would be imprisoned for, then it is not worth it.

Same goes for any of the redshirts, UDD members, the entire Shin regime and any other person on any political persuasion who thinks they are above the law. And yes, you rabid red fans, that does include the yellow fellows. thumbsup.gif

Seems we are still waiting for yellows to be prosecuted from the airport closures, other government building takeovers and the slaughter of 90 people. How was Abisit not charged with "dereliction of dudy" for that one? Once again no statement of what Japuporn ACTUALLY said for to receive this sentence. Fascism is alive and well with the above posters.

I know I know...the "reds" are guilty of damaging a sacred shopping mall.

If re-education doesn't work, send the opposition leaders to jail.

Rubbish.

He has already been out on bail for this offense for nearly 2 years under the PTP government.

In addition Jatuporn has NEVER been a proper leader though he might like to think so.

With a bit of luck Nattawut Siakua will be next

What did he say as defamation to get 2 years?

He got 1 year for lie 1. about Abhisit ordering the shooting of protesters and a second year for lie 2. delaying Thaksin's amnesty - its probably a good thing that he didn't stay on stage all evening ranting away as he might have ended up with life imprisonment!!!

What does the red shirt leadership group have in common with the current government?

That's right, neither were elected.

Strange thing is that Abhisit was charged with murder under the previous administration. Raises two issues:

  1. That case never went to trial, so we don't really know for sure what Abhisit's role in the crackdown was
  2. Given the charges laid against him back then, does that mean that everyone involved in that process (investigators, politicians, prosecutors, etc.) are also guilty of defamation?

2 years for defamation, but nothing for the slaughter of civilians by the military, which has been proven by Thai courts.

And no issues for the months of vitriol and lies from the PRDC stage.

Oh, the justice! Oh, the reconciliation!

Do you have a link about the slaughter by the military which is proved by the Thai courts?

AFAIR they military were absolved and none were charged by the PTP government under Yingluck, unless you know better and can point it out to me.

Of course if you were talking about Abhisit and Suthep they are still in Thailand waiting for their time in court to be proved guilty of murder which they were accused of.

The above is one of many of the cases that ruled the military were responsible. Please do keep up with the news.
