Good, I have your attention thumbsup.gif

7 weeks ago I broke my ulna close to my wrist and after six weeks in plaster the bone has bonded back together but not in a normal way. I can move my fingers etc but there is no longer any mobility in that hand. The doctor I saw said that an operation might be needed to 're-break' the bone and then 'reset' it. I am no stranger to broken bones so an operation doesn't really phase me (last time in hospital I had 16 broken bones!).

My question is, who is the best orthopedic surgeon on Samui and which hospital. I'm presuming BSH but know that a lot of doctors/surgeons do 'the rounds'. Any information would be appreciated. Thnx.

Not on Samui, but perhaps you can do the same thing at Bangkok International Hospital Samui website.

If you visit the Bumrungrad hospital website, there is a "Find a doctor" facility, where you can search by specialty, say Orthopaedics, then check out each doctors qualifications and experience.

So at bumrungrad for example: Orthopedics>Bone>Hand

There is a Doctor Somkiat Orthopaedic Clinic, in Nathon, near the hospital who I suspect does the rounds of all the local hospitals...

Full name Somkiat Jivasomboonkul, MD., FRCOST.

I happen to be seeing him in the morning at Samui Hospital ... very impressed on him sorting me... it's just a follow up visit...

On his card he list being available from 17.00 to 20.00 hrs Monday to Friday, except Wednesday, and Sat and Sun 8 am to 12 noon...

Not sure I should post this, his email is [email protected]... phone 084 304 3480

If mods delete, PM me! wink.png

Be more careful around Labyboys and you won't break your bones! tongue.png

Thank you phetphet and Jimmy, will follow up on both of those.

...... and it was the buffalo tongue.png

You really need a specialist for this kind of thing....not something I would have done in Samui.

You will likely get better advice in the Health Forum regards which surgeons perform this surgery in Bangkok.

My broken wrist operation was done at Thai International, metal plate inserted. The Doctor/Surgeon was quite good, although rehabilitation and physio is not followed up. You have to keep doing that yourself and return for check ups, I can only assume they thought I was a tourist.

Better overall experience than BSH.

Thaksin hospital in Suratthani in my opinion offers the best quality/service for very reasonable prices. Not sure though if your problem is 'big' enough to go there.

Thanks for the replies, think I will head to the old stomping ground in NST and get done there. Been in Nakarin a few times and always more than happy with the service there.

I am quite impressed with this Dr Somkiat.... He's not just of of Med school...and English is pretty good and judging by the amount of both farangs and Thai's who were visiting him this morning, he seems to be busy... with various bone problems!

For 400 baht it's not a lot of money to at least go and see for one's self...and see what he says.... and then make an informed choice ....

I did ask him about going direct to the office, his answer was that if and xray is needed that can be done at the visit to the hospital within a short period of time...

I had several tests done on my first visit and issues resolved pretty much (Stenosis) I am going to have a few more Physio treatments.

as for the office I now know where it is located, it was not clear on the map, when I posted last night... but as one is heading to Samui immigration, it is next to the BAAC bank... The building is white with green stipes (Sort of Tudor style) ... it's the first of that type coming from Nathon... It is also the turning for the short cut to the hospital (saves going to the lights at Immigration.... )

I know many here seem to think the goverement hospital is useless... I have never found that to be the case... It's well run and has more modern equipment than many would think.... Nurses for the most part all speak English and dispite the crowds it runs very efficently ....thumbsup.gif

All previous visit records are on the computer system even the xrays.

My only concern Jimny would be that its an old injury....these thing being reset is a more difficult job than an immediate fixation.

Best wishes to the OP but I'd look for a specialist.

I am not trying to argue the point.... here.

One could check out dozens of Doctors, my point is this Dr Somkiat I mention, is not just out of school... and seems well experienced... and I think would be worth while talking to first, before heading off to the mainland!

Perhaps PhetPhet's suggestion might find this guy on the list, I really don't know...

Also as for records, if one uses Samui Government Hospital, all records are kept for each patient ... on gets a card and number on very first visit... so follow ups show in the records...from day 1.... all medications and allergies too!

Only South can determine what he wants to do ... good luck with what ever he decides !!! wink.png
