I am a Serb and I was ashamed of the crimes Serbs committed. I do agree that carpet bombing and the execution of prisoners is not going to solve anything. All this does is to shuffle the "sympathy" card around the table.

Until a combined organization is established, sharing (important word!) global counter-terrorism intelligence, conducting financial analysis (kill the money sources), and conducting surgical strikes (without massive collateral damage) nothing much is going to change.

As for countries nationals joining IS? Governments are going to have to rethink their responses to members of their country with known, or suspected, affiliation with more powers to the authorities for internment for longer periods than they have now. Mosques with known affiliation should be closed down, clerics either interned or sent back to their original countries.

With most things concerning terrorism these days, it takes an atrocity to bring the truth home to the masses. If the prisoner had been shot by firing squad, or killed by lethal injection, the action with most people would have registered and then been quickly forgotten. The fact that these things have been happening for decades, under different named organizations, is lost to many. What makes ISIS different to the rest is that they are living up to their description and bringing terror to light by graphical exposure.
