DSWD Distributes P132 Million in Aid to Kanlaon Volcano Evacuees
File photo for reference only The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has delivered approximately P132 million worth of humanitarian assistance to families impacted by the ongoing unrest of Kanlaon Volcano, according to an official statement on April 10. DSWD spokesperson Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao detailed the extensive aid provided, which includes family food packs, non-food items, and financial support. Since the initial eruption on December 9, 2024, the DSWD has distributed 107,825 family food packs and 24,990 non-food items to local government units. Following another explosive eruption on April 8, additional support was necessary to address the needs of the affected communities. Approximately P28 million has been allocated through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program. To further assist evacuees, community kitchens have been established in affected areas, serving 3,502 food items such as potable water and hot meals, Dumlao reported. "As of April 10, our Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center has recorded 12,761 families or 48,850 individuals across Negros Island affected by the volcanic activity," Dumlao stated. Among these, 2,606 families or 8,313 individuals are residing in 22 evacuation centers, while 3,702 families or 11,892 persons are staying temporarily with relatives or friends. Reassuring the public, Dumlao affirmed that the agency has ample supplies and funding to continue supporting displaced individuals. "Our national stockpile contains about 2.7 million items, and we are actively producing more," she assured. Additionally, the DSWD has P93 million in standby funds and non-food items, including hygiene kits, family kits, kitchen kits, and modular tents, ready for distribution as needed. This comprehensive relief effort underscores the agency's commitment to mitigating the effects of the volcanic activity on the affected populations and ensuring their wellbeing during this challenging time, reported Manila Bulletin. -- 2025-04-11 -

Gaza Paramedics Shot ‘With Intent to Kill,’ Red Crescent Demands International Probe
I'm more than willing to wait for the outcome of this investigation: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) initially denied targeting ambulances, claiming troops fired on vehicles believed to be carrying Hamas militants. However, following the release of video evidence, the IDF admitted its earlier account was “mistaken” but maintained that six of those killed had links to Hamas—a claim for which no evidence has been provided. Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, Israel’s army chief, has ordered a deeper investigation into the incident after an initial review concluded that troops acted out of a “sense of threat
