White House asking authorization for military to fight IS

Officer indicted in killing of unarmed man in NYC stairwell

Damrongtham Center solved 89% of complaints about injustice

BANGKOK, 11 February 2015 (NNT)-The Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office has claimed the Damrongtham Center has been able to solve 89% of public complaints it has received so far.


Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office M.L. Panadda Disakul revealed that most of the problems involved unfair debt collections.
Other issues resolved were related to overextended opening hours of entertainment venues and corruption among civil servants.

M.L. Panadda has urged the government agencies to set a good example for their staff by initiating an anti-graft movement within the organization.

As for a call for public participation in addressing social issues, the Permanent Secretary said existing government units already have complaint centers to accept information and suggestions from the public for investigation.

Lao ambassador to Thailand expresses support for NLA's work

BANGKOK, 11 February 2015 (NNT) – Lao ambassador to Thailand Ly Bounkham has expressed support for the National Legislative Assembly's work in pushing forward laws and agreements that are aimed at the mutual benefit of Thailand and Laos.


H.E. Ly Bounkham yesterday met with the Thailand-Lao Parliamentarians' Friendship Group, chaired by General Thiradet Miphien. The ambassador and the parliamentarians' group exchanged viewpoints on both countries' economy, society, politics and work of parliament. He also thanked Thailand for the large number of scholarships offered to Lao students in the normal curricula as well as at Buddhist universities, and especially for the scholarships dedicated to the creation of Lao PDR's medical personnel.

The ambassador also thanked Thailand's National Legislative Assembly for progress in many laws and agreements that benefit both countries. He expressed hope for quick realization of the transport linkages between Thailand, Laos and China, and revealed that memorandums of understanding on railways development cooperation have been made between Laos and China. Laos is currently negotiating with the projects' funding sources.

Mr. Ly made remarks on the close ties between Thailand and Laos, and noted that Thailand's security correlated with Lao's.

Had Yai Hospital unveils Ebola Laboratory

SONGKLA, 11 Feb 2015, (NNT) - Had Yai Hospital in Had Yai District of Songkla Province yesterday unveiled an Ebola Laboratory for the examination of patients suspicious of carrying the deadly disease.


Director-General of the Department of Medical Science Dr. Apichai Mongkol presided over the laboratory unveiling ceremony, during which he inspected and demonstrated how to use the facility to the media. The laboratory is divided into 2 sections: A disinfection area in which staff members are required to wear protective gears, and an operating area where medical officials perform tasks.

The lab is equipped with several essential tools including a biological safety cabinet, an automatic hematological analysis machine, a mini detector for chemical in circulatory system, and centrifuges.

After the lab conducts a preliminary test, it will forward the results to the Medical Science Center Region 12 in Songkla for further analysis.

Kalasin Technical College holds a blood drive

KALASIN, 11 Feb 2015 (NNT) – The Kalasin Technical College yesterday held a blood drive as a tribute to Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on the occasion of her 60th Birthday Anniversary on April 2nd.


More than 400 students and college staff members joined the event dubbed “Give Blood-Give Life, Kalasin Technical College Challenge”.

According to the college, those joining in giving blood came of their own accord without expecting anything in return. The campaign encourages college staff, students and related officials to do good deeds for fellow citizens.

The campaign is considered a pilot project, drawing attention not only from college staff and students but also residents and soccer players of the province’s Kalasin FC. The event has raised about 160-thousand cc. of blood to the province’s blood bank.
