Hundreds charter flights to land at Bangkok airport on Chinese New Year

BANGKOK, 11 February 2015 (NNT) – Two million passengers are expected to pass through the Suvarnabhumi Airport during Chinese New Year with 563 additional charter flights landing during the festival, said the Airport Director.

The Director of Suvarnabhumi Airport, Airports of Thailand Public Co., Ltd has said that the passenger traffic of the airport is expected to be at 2.15 million persons during 14-26 February 2015, estimated at 165,783 passengers per day.

The estimated number for international passengers is at 1,820,094 persons, while the number for domestic passengers is at 335,084 persons, an increased 20 percent from the same period last year.

The airport director revealed that 563 charter flights are scheduled to land at the airport in the season in addition to regular flights. Most of these charter flights are from China. The total number of flights during the Chinese New Year will reach 12,034 flights, estimated at 926 flights a day, which is 4.18 percent increase from the same period last year.

To accommodate the passenger increase, the airport has held a meeting with all related agencies to improve the services with an increase in immigration staff, ground service assistance staff at the baggage claim areas, and Chinese language interpreters at the passport control area to accommodate flights from China, said the Director of Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Any plans to bring in ' Porta-Loos ' or will the authorities simply go with the idea that ANYWHERE is suitable for some Chinese so additional toilet facilities are unnecessary ?

I honestly feel sorry for any people having to use swampy with that kind of crowd descending on it. Imagine the chaos and queue jumping at immigration? I would be ready to kill someone.......

That means lots more flights coming to CM as well. The sky use to be quiet after 9PM but the air traffic has increased to where I hear planes overhead during all hours of the late night.

Wouldn't it be nice if the third-runway had been completed, or had even been started, in time for the rush ? wink.png

Yay for Forward-Planning ! facepalm.gif

"Forward-Planning" is a tautology, since ALL planning is, by definition, "forward".

If you want to pick up some of those sexy Chinese tourists, then this might be a good time to read Mandarin Optional.

Here is the amazon description

Described by many of its early fans as 'The Game' set in the Far East, 'Mandarin Optional' is the first in a series of novels following the amorous adventures of two intrepid travellers that explore the hidden delights of Asia.
This first installment takes place in Bangkok where the female quarries are not sexy go-go girls and sultry Thai beauties but visiting Chinese tourists, who are now flocking to the Thai capital in their thousands looking for fun, frolics and romance. In a style that is part-field report, part-travelogue and part-instruction manual, 'Mandarin Optional' reveals the secrets of two self-confessed playboys as they gorge themselves to excess in a frenzy of Asian females.
This is an immensely enjoyable read, hilarious in parts and instantly recognisable to anybody already familiar with Thailand and Thai culture. It is a godsend for any man planning to visit the Land of Smiles as the Thai Kingdom is also known. There is even a detailed glossary of terms, explaining all the Thai and Chinese phrases, and even some of the more obscure Britishisms that might puzzle international readers. What Neil Strauss did for the American AFC, Darby Jones is now doing for adventurous expats based in the Far East, whose tastes are distinctly of the Asian persuasion.
