Lost Birth Certificate / Record

Featured Replies

Hello....... I am in desparate need to obtain a copy of my birth certificate. I was born in Udorn in 1970 to my American father and Thai mother. Both parents have lost my birth record. I need to know how to obtain a copy of my birth documents through the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok. Do they keep birth records, prior to issuance of a passport, back in 1976? Our family left Thailand in 1976.

Can anyone help me??

If you were born in a Thai hospital, they may have helped to get your Thai birth certificate. They may be able to help you obtain copies of your Thai birth certifcate.

Using your Thai birth certificate, your father may have submitted the documentation to register your birth at the US Embassy. You can try contacting the Embassy's Consular Section (American Citizen Services) to see if your records are still available.

Vinny, thanks for your help. I contacted the Embassy and was told that my records were too old to be in the system. I was surprised that those records are not retained, despite that fact. I also found that the hospital in which I was born, no longer exists.

So, I went ahead and contacted the District Office / City Hall in Udorn and had no luck, as no one speaks English there. So, have decided that I should contact an Attorney there and request the records through them.
