Thailand launches campaign to host 2016 World Tourism Day

BANGKOK, 15 February 2015 (NNT) - The Ministry of Tourism and Sports will ask the Cabinet to approve Thailand’s bid to host the 2016 World Tourism Day next year.

Minister of Tourism and Sports Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul said the World Tourism Day had been scheduled for 27 September 2016. The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) chose Bangkok to host this grand event of the global tourism industry as requested by the organizers, said the minister.

Ms Kobkarn added that Bangkok was chosen due to its convenient transportation. Ayutthaya would likely be one of the event’s venues for Thai cultural performances, the minister said.

Are they biding for it or has it already been awarded?

That's what I couldn't figure out. The headline suggests they are only bidding, but the text indicates it's all sown up for Bangkok.

My local radio indicated they were only 'bidding' at this stage.
