I've recently stopped by one near the Chiang Mai railway station. It's quite a large shop and they have a large inventory ranging from modified bicycles to electric scooters. Sadly though, the saleslady there was quite honest that my hefty frame would probably meant the bike doesn't get moving at all.

Now, they didn't have any demo units, which is a minus. Actually, I wondered if the girl was a bit misinformed? I understand that pedelecs assists a cyclist and isn't supposed to be a full mobile solution. It's only suppose to "kick in" below a certain speed or something. Anyway, I ended settling for a regular bike and may look into conversion once I put some miles into it.

I bought a Thai made one as a birthday present for my elderly FiL a few years ago and its still going strong.

It was a step through frame design with battery located under the seat above the rear wheel. It can be either pedalled or driven by electrics. There's a on/charge/off switch located just under the saddle.

Apart from the battery being replaced a year after purchase it quite happily transports him around the village and out to the farm and back each day. We suspect the original battery was a dud from the bike sitting in the shop for so long after manufacture. The replacement battery was easily found and cost around B2,000 I think.

I can't see any problem with it transporting 2 adult Thais which it regularly does.
