Paternity leave (not maternity leave!)

Featured Replies

Hi All,

We have a baby due in June and i would like to know if there has been any advancements with regards to paternity leave. I work for a private sector company in LOS and want to know if i have any entitlement to "the old fathers taking paid leave business!!"

I read that the Thai government introduced paternity leave for all state officials of 15 days full pay (2012).

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/542287-thai-cabinet-approves-15-day-paternity-leave/

Has this filtered down to the public sector or is it all at the discretion of the company?

Do you work for a private company that gave you paid leave for the initial first few weeks of your new born?

Thank you

Some companies allow "personal leave" intended for emergencies. I think this is the closest you'll come to paternity leave in Thailand. A few multinationals might be sympathetic, but it will need to be stipulated in your contract. As far as I know, the Thai labour law doesn't cover it.

Only for state officials is there paternity leave. Otherwise it depends on the policy of your employer.

  • 1 year later...

i've been offered 2 days paternity leave in my private sector company..

i was really hoping for 2 weeks. but at least i will be given option to take leave without pay during this period...

more savings for them i suppose.
