Installing Internet/phone line for dummies

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Looking to install a fairly quick broadband into the wife's home in Buriram, we are only 8km from city centre & 500 meters from the main road. We currently do not have a phone line !

Advice on what to do who to go to/ best broadband speed internet & phone line provider and how the install process works & Cost for everything

Many Thanks

See who the local phone line provider is in your area and go visit one of their offices. Highly probable there is only one phone line provider (i.e, TOT, 3BB, etc) in your area so you will be limited to that service provider and their installation costs.

When I first moved into my western Bangkok moobaan about a half dozen years ago, only TOT provided phone line service which means I was also stuck with TOT for internet service or an internet service provider which had a concession to provide ADSL over TOT lines (TOT got a cut). At that time only Jasmine International has a concession with TOT so I was stuck with either TOT or Jasmine for internet service...and only TOT for phone line service...I had ADSL internet service with Jasmine for about a year and TOT for two years since TOT provided a higher speed service. Then True put cable TV and internet into my moobaan (no phone line service as TOT has those exclusive right in my area) and I've been with True since for internet service. Now, if I got mad at True one day and want to switch my only choice would be TOT because Jasmine no longer has a concession with TOT in my area. Basically TOT still has exclusive phone/ADSL rights in my area of Bangkok.

Long story short, refer back to my opening statement.

There are also various WiMax type services which need no phone line, check this forum for TOT WiNet threads.

No you actually need a phone line, or are you just after internet?

My question too.

You live 500 m from a main road.

Are there cables that have "loops" from time to time, like these?

Such are fibre optic cables, probably from ToT.

They will most likely be able to connect you individually.

But for a price (5 digit).

This would open you practically unlimited bandwidth (up to 200 Mbit/s whatever you want to pay).

I have 30 Mbit/s (3 Mbit/s upload) for 1200/month.

That should have read, "Do you actually need a phone line, or are you just after internet?

Sorry for the confusion.
