Bannister, handrail, ballustrade

Does anyone know if wooden pre-crafted bannisters that can be bolted to the wall are available in Chiang Mai? Fell down four stairs yesterday and would prefer not to do it again!

Many thanks.

Do you have some sort of design in mind, they can be very simple, and easy to make.

Simple would be fine - but I guess I need a carpenter. Thank you.

You might consider metal brackets that would bolt into the wall and hold the wood or metal rail. Rail wood can be bought at lumber sales places like Suksawat and Wood World (it is a common item so they can mill it for you with a rounded top) or you might use large round dowel but long ones might be hard to find. Then some metal brackets made at a place like Daang Krong Pratu. In such case, no need for a carpenter since you only have to mount it with screws and bolts, sand and paint.

If you used a metal rail it could all be fabricated so you only would need to connect to the wall.

We have a place with exceptionally treacherous stairs and we got a handrail made out of a big chrome tube. Got this made at a shop that also makes shiny chrome gates and fences. They also installed it.

This brought the casualty rate down remarkably. It's a good business practise to keep tenants alive. wink.png
