BANGKOK: -- The heart of Isaan will be only an hour away once Air Asia launches its new route from Bangkok to mystical Buriram.

The first Buriram flight will take off April 2, which is also during the Phanom Rung festivities, when locals visit Phanon Rung Historical Park to watch the sunset.

NOK is flying to Buriram already, and they only have one daily flight, using an ATR72 which seats 72/76 Pax.

I doubt that AirAsia with their huge Jet Aircraft can fill 180 seats a day.

If demand was high, NOK, who are waaaayyyyyy smarter than ThaiAirAsia in all their management decisions, would have already increased frequency.

Lets wait.

When I first came to Thailand (1994) and up to a "couple of years ago" there were 3 flights daily to Khon Kaen.

Airport was a shack. Open space car park.

After the new building was completed the car park had plenty of space.

Today a complete mess, No space even on the upperdeck in the sun.

Today there are 11 or more flights daily and well booked.

More and more Thais can afford to fly at these prices and have good reason to prefer this to a long (and statistically dangerous) bus ride.

So far Nok Air seems to have good business on this route (without competition).

Their price tag (oneway) goes well over 2500 Baht in the cheapest booking class.

39 km?

A dimension for a metropolis cheesy.gif

Sorry should have said RICE FIELDS. As for the Phanon Rung Historical Park add another 66 km for a total of 104 km of rice fields with no public transportation available. Unless you want to use pops water buffalo. The one that just happened not to die.
