Say what you want, but it just shows no one is safe.

May be was a warning, may be mismanagement, may be pure incompetency.

But rest assured, those influential people will be thinking twice now.

They have body guards, not a chance,...

But rest assured, those influential people will be thinking twice now.

Thinking twice, as in:

First thought:' Am I back-handing the right people!?'.

Second thought::' Inflation in the "insurance" market,, maybe my premium has increased!?'

Nakhon Si Thammarat is known in the South as a nest of hard criminals, mostly not individuals but families, gangs, mafias. When you f.i. know where most of the Thai (as there are others!) thugs of Koh Samui and Kho Pha Ngan's 'nightlife' (plus drugs, jet skis, ...) come from, not to forget Khanom they totally control, etc...

But as the Police in Nakhon Si is not any better than elsewhere in Thailand, to say the least, the 'influential persons' must have been informed well before the raids took place... It seems the 'new team in power' didn't succeed in 'changing' and 'reforming' any of that, isn't it...? As long as' they' don't DARE, ...or WANT, to hit the (known!) criminal organisations at THE (well-known) HEAD, nationwide, nothing will get any better, IMO!

The 'keys' to it being high ranked officers (Police AND Military), politicians', and/or wealthy/powerfull, families, it won't be for tomorrow either!

"police raid houses of 16 suspected influential persons"

So it's a crime to be influential now?

Maybe they mean "police raid houses of 16 influential suspects"?

Do you imagine it is possible to become 'influential' in Thailand (and many other places) with honest activities, without breaking the Law?

Yes, in fact I do: Either born to wealth or through education.

Sure, join the army. They never seem to be investigated for anything so are obviously squeaky clean...

Thats like 62 guns per house on average.

That's some serious firepower.

I wonder how many other houses have similar weapons in Thailand?

Uh, you've misplaced your decimal,

6.25 per house.

But, still too many as far as I'm concerned.

Cum on folks, they are suspected influential persons. If they were influential persons suspected of miss deeds that would be an entirely different thing.

Lets not get confused about it! blink.png

Massive raids net 35 assorted weapons in Nakhon Si Thammarat

3-1-2015-6-07-03-PM-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- About 400 policemen and army troopers with the support of two helicopters took part in province-wide raids of the houses of influential local politicians and Mafia-like figures in Nakhon Si Thammarat province Sunday morning as part of the national police chief’s policy to curb crime wave in the province.

Sixteen houses of influential politicians and Mafia-like figures in Pak Phanang, Cha-uad, Chien Yai, Noppitum, Tha Sala, Pipoon and Muang districts were targeted in the raids which netted 35 assorted weapons.

Commando policemen were airdropped from a helicopter into the house of an influential local policeman.

Pol Maj-Gen Pawin Pongsirin, deputy commissioner of 8th region provincial police bureau, said that Nakhon Si Thammarat had a record of high incidence of violent crime and the use of legal weapons.

He said that police would try to determine whether any of the seized arms were previously used in committing crimes. He vowed to get rid of Mafia-like figures in the province who resorted to the use of war weapons.

My bad. Scanned article. Saw the 1,000 troops. Read as guns.

I'm an idiot.

Really well done to the police and army troopers, and confiscating 35 assorted weapons (assumed illegal?) Even if this only resulted in the the removal of one illegal weapon.

Hopefully some deserved punishment will also be meted out.

Dont see any arrests, just lots of guns and ammo seized.... ho hum same same no different.

influential just means having money for bribes.... nothing more.

I think it is the same as the arrests of government officials and military officers for human trafficking, no names or pic of the happy smiling officers standing behind thier catch. Sounds like more rubbish propaganda being issued by the Junta

It's hard to get credibility when you haven't got Chalerm to confirm it.

Commandos seize guns in raids, no arrests made
THE NATION

Police commandos fast-rope from a helicopter during a raid in Nakhon Si Thammarat province to apprehend an unknown number of gunmen, as 15 other raids are conducted simultaneously in the province yesterday. There were no arrests.

NAKHON SI TAMMARAT: -- A 1,000-STRONG joint police-army operation yesterday resulted in simultaneous raids at 16 locations in Nakhon Si Thammarat in an attempt to arrest seven influential local politicians and an unknown number of guns for hire over their alleged involvement in a series of crimes - including high-profile murders.

There were no arrests.

The operation, which included police commandos fast-roping from a helicopter, resulted in nearly 100 firearms being seized, said acting Crime Suppression Division commander Pol Maj-General Akkharadej Phimolsri.

Akkharadej said the authorities also wanted to suppress or arrest a large number of gunmen working for various gun-for-hire rackets based in this southern province.

The registration details of the guns were being checked, he said.

Those targeted in the raids were connected or related to local administrative officials, kamnan and village heads, he said.

He told the son of a suspect identified as "Councillor Yuen" to tell his father to turn himself in in two weeks or face stiffer suppression.

The fugitive councillor is suspected of being behind several crimes.

The other wanted politicians are Kamnan Somboon Chumthong from Chu-uat district; Kamnan Khaneung Inkheeree (Na Bon district); Khwanchai Rodmanee, a son of Councillor Yuen (district unknown); Yutthana Rodmanee, a relative of Councillor Yuen (district unknown); Councillor Sahas Suwanmanee (Chawang district); Kamnan Charoen Chinnawong (Pak Phanang district); and Itthichai Rodmanee, a relative of Councillor Yuen (district unknown).

Chalerm was a tool.

He was also #2 on the PTP party list, DPM under Yingluk, and the man charged with investigating corruption in the rice scam, which resonates with him being an alcoholic leading the war on drugs.

So if police dropping from the sky and seizing weapons is just propaganda, what were Chalerm's corruption investigations? A smoke screen?
