I take whatever the Met. office says with a pinch of salt (seaweed?). The only indicator I use is satellite radar and visual imagery. You can find that at http://www.wunderground.com/wundermap/

I do keep a weather eye on the fir cones and my little bit of seaweed outside the back door, but I tend to ignore the likes of Michael Fish and other professionals.

It is definitely "Brewing" we started to get those heave black clouds yesterday afternoon and then the sudden ferocious winds (SW CM) - you can feel the static in the air here in the early afternoon. Batten down the hatches as when it arrives it can be pretty nasty - I have had huge ten year old trees just ripped out of the ground in some of the winds we get here over the years, the hail can be quite bad if you are out in it but up to now (touch wood has never damaged our house)

Nothing but sensationalist hype. They make it sound like a national emergency when it's just a bit of possible windy rain (which would be welcomed).

Rescue units on standby as thunderstorms about to affect 40 provinces... coordinated rescue efforts... thunder and hail storms... emergency situations at any time... brace for gusty winds and heavy rains... urged to remove any signs and placards which are vulnerable to wind damage... rescue team to help those in need or call a 24 hour-hotline

A good description of what the DDPM is warning about. They are localized , pretty much come out of nowhere, common during the hot season, all over in less than 30 minutes with 10 minutes of trees and palms bending over, heavy rain, hail stones and possible building damage if you are unlucky. You might be 10 miles from one of these storms and unaware anything has happened.

Over here in Khon Kaen I have been telling the folks since yesterday its going to rain. I am starting to look like a liar! Come on Thailand weather forecasters: get the weather right!

This accuweather link is the best, if you zoom in on Thailand and wait for a while to let it compute!!

You can see every stormcell forming, moving and dissapearing over the provinces.

They come like 2 bands from the Indian Ocean and Siam Bay and moving N-NE .

Don't seems to reach out all the way to Chiang Mai....

come up with some brilliant ideas on preventing this looming disaster.

Within this region of the world it seams a fairly well educated suggestion
and most likely acceptable to the majority of the population, that pointing
all the fans and hair driers in the affected provinces towards China, might
blow that storm away.

Should people have any doubt on the feasibility of such a project, a bit of
attitude adjustment with clear clarifications will eliminate any opposition.

Similar projects have been used in the past with some invisible effects
in flood and haze management programs.

Just because we can't see it, doesn't mean it's not there.

Well the 10th is here and not a drop of rain in sight.

Closest to a thunderstorm was the evening of the 8th, had some clouds and lightning. It felt stormy, but nothing happened.

Located about 30km outside Udon Thani.

Anybody have a thunderstorm? Or even some rain?

CHAIYAPHUM: -- Chatturat district in the northastern province of Chaiyaphum was hit by hailstorms yesterday morning and 1.45am. Homes and a local school were damaged and the storm caused a blackout in the area.

More than 500 homes in Chatturat, Nong Bua Rawe, Kaeng Khro and Phakdi Chumphol districts had already been damaged storms over the past week while a Kaeng Khro woman was killed.

In related news, the 'worst summer storm in 30 years' hit the central province of Phetchabun's Nong Phai district on Sunday evening, destroying 100 homes. Another summer storm also damaged 10 homes in Lom Sak district on the same day. In Lom Sak, Red Cross officials were dispatched to provide relief bags for the storm victims.
