DITP signs MoU with HK to boost online trading

Elephant was not shot

BANGKOK: -- The authorities say a wild elephant found dead near the boundary of Kaeng Krachan National Park in Phetchaburi died of natural causes.

Forensic Science Police Colonel Wirat Thongthai and his team yesterday used metal detectors to scan the area where the animal was found and the carcass but failed find a bullet.

Protected Area Regional Office 3 veterinarian Saowalak Padaung said the 10-year-old elephant, whose trunk was in tact, died of a natural cause.

The carcass will be buried soon.

One killed in hailstorm

BANGKOK: -- A hailstorm that ravaged Chaiyaphum's Kaeng Khro district from Friday evening until yesterday morning killed one resident in her 40s and damaged 100 homes, four schools and state offices, an informed source reported.

Tambon Kaeng Khro Municipality officials were yesterday dispatched to help affected residents and assess the damage and propose a disaster-aid budget.

Villager Chuchat Phumanee of Tambon Chong Sam Mok said his 42-year-old wife Wanida was killed by falling bamboo trees during the storm on Friday night while they were trying to get a car parked near the trees

PM rebuked for punch remark

Thai Journalists Association spokesman Manop Tip-Osod said that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha's remark during his weekly TV programme on Friday night that he "would almost punch the reporter in the face" was unbecoming given his status.

2 Nemtsov suspects detained in Russia, prompting skepticism

Bangkok's boat piers to be reconstructed

BANGKOK, 7 March 2015 (NNT) -- The Marine Department has announced its plan to reconstruct all boat piers on the Chao Phraya River, the goal being to increase safety for commuters generally and also to offer a better service to the disabled.

According to the Director General Chula Sukhamanop, all public boat piers on the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok and its vicinity will be upgraded into boat stops with new facilities that are designed for safety and the convenience of all types of commuters, including those who are handicapped.

Currently, the department is responsible for 84 piers on the Chao Phraya River and in the canals. Pinklao, Sathorn and Nontaburi piers will be reconstructed first because they are the busiest piers. The department plans to complete the reconstruction of 17 piers within a budget of 70 million baht.

PHUKET: A 63-year-old local man was arrested on Friday evening (March 6) at Chalong Circle after being caught in possession of about 310 reef fish which he was about to despatch to Bangkok for sale.
