Hi everyone

Just wanted to share some news and also ask if anyone else has been in this situation.

My husband submitted his document in Bangkok on 3rd March and yesterday we received the email stating they have made a decision and it's ready to be collected.

Has anyone else had such a quick turn around and was it good or bad news?

Hope this also helps anyone else who is applying, that currently it seems the turn around times are pretty quick.

The length of the processing time is no indication of the result; it takes just as long to process a refusal as it does an acceptance.

Processing times depend mainly upon demand; apply at a quiet time and you will get a quick decision, apply at a busy one and it will take longer.

I hope you have got the result you are looking for.

We did, thank you!! Approved!

Although not valid until May 15th so that was a bit of a let down as we wanted him fly right away, but are so grateful anyway.

Thanks

Glad he got his visa, and good luck for your life together in the UK.

But I am confused by

not valid until May 15th so that was a bit of a let down as we wanted him fly right away

UK visas are valid from the day they are issued; unless the applicant asks for a specific start date, which can be up to three months away.

As settlement visas can take up to three months to process, did he put 15th May as his date of travel on the form?

Thanks!!

I actually filled the application form out for him online and we didn't put a date, we did also stated in our letters that he would want to travel as soon as the visa was issued.

So I really don't know why it starts 15th May?

Now he is back in Thailand just waiting to return, but at least we go the visa =)

I wonder what is going on here? I have just received settlement visas for my wife and step daughter within 3 weeks so no complaints and huge relief but....I asked for the visas to be post dated 12 May with a date of travel 30 July and they post dated the visas for 15 June. Obviously that suits me very well as going to the UK 30 July is nicely inside the 3 months so they have the full 30 months in the UK before the next application but what is going on with these dates? Anyway visas granted which is the main thing and the turnaround time is still very quick. VFS staff were still saying 3 to 4 months when we handed in the applications which makes planning a bit tricky as there is a big difference between 3 months and 3 weeks.

02/03/15 My girlfriend applied online for tourist visa and got her appointment 09/03/15.

09/03/15 has appointment

15/03/15 (Sunday) get email advising decision made.

16/03/15 she collects passport and finds sadly rejected sad.png Decision dated as being made 12/03/15.

(Rejection was due to lack of proof to confirm that she would actually return once visa expired)

This is unfortunately just about the most common reason for the rejection of a visitor visa. The application really has to concentrate on making it absolutely clear that there is a good reason to return to Thailand. Good luck if you apply again and use all the resources on these forums. Turning back to my situation I have just worked it out. I got the e mail on 18 March but i suspect the ECO actually made the decision on 15 March and because I wanted to travel on 30 July he/she post dated the visa for the maximum 3 months to 15 June. I have to say that i am extremely impressed by this and it does show a degree of consideration in looking at the application. Proves that there are real people looking at the applications and that they are thinking.

So sorry you didn't get the answer you wanted for your girlfriends visa.

Hopefully now you know the reasons you will be okay next time =)

I have no idea what is going on with the dates they are issuing on the spouse visas, but I also am just grateful that my husband got this visa!! We have a 14 month old son and it has been difficult being apart.

Congratulations also on your visa and hope you will enjoy your life together in the UK!

I, too, am sorry to hear she was rejected.

If you would like specific comments on the reasons given, and advice on how to overcome them should she wish to apply again, then I suggest you start a new topic as such a request could easily be lost in this one and missed by those best placed to advise you.

To enable the best possible advice we need to see the exact wording of the refusal notice, so I suggest you add it as an attachment to any post you make.

However, this is a public site which anyone, member or not, can read. So you should remove all names and other identifying information before posting the notice.

It will also help if you say what reason(s) she gave for returning to Thailand and what evidence, if any, she submitted of same.

Would it be harsh to point out that 15th May is after the UK general election? ;) Probably just me speculating, but I couldn't resist!

Thank you for the thoughts, I already am looking at a few previous posts by others,

Again thank you. They have given valid reason and am looking into it.

Thanks 7by7 for the thoughts and advice, I didn't want to change the purpose of the OP's original thread and was posting to show the speed at which her application was processed. Concerning our own situation I am reviewing other posts and have picked up a few things to add and explain in my application letter which I hope will resolve their concerns. We intend to reapply next month and if unsuccesful I will most likely post a seperate topic
