alex88
The sign inside the consulate says they will re-open at an undisclosed date.
Will27
This is a massive blow to me. I fly back to Brisbane next month to get my 9th Non Imm 'O' Now i don't know where to go for it. Use the Thai consulate in Tasmania, either in person or by post. Visa processed in a day plus postage time. I have posted several reviews on here about them. http://www.thaiconsulatehobart.com/
Sparkles
<script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script> In Chiang Mai we have also lost our honorary consul which means for many a trek to Bangkok. Obviously becoming a rare and endangered species. Which Honorary Consul is being discussed ? Why would "many have" to trek to Bangkok ? What would the "many" be seeking that cannot be achieved by post ? You obviously don't know that there are many things you can't get by post.I wont list them all here but statuary declarations that have to be witnessed ,letters relating to income from Australia etc etc. CM has enough Australians residing here to offer these services and having to go to Bangkok is a pain in the rear end.If you think a lot of things can be done by post you're dreaming. Its all about security which the postal service does not offer, anyone could send a letter you need to be identified..ok?
David Walden
I see and hope the point of the comments made on this site are at least read by Thai govt Officials...if they could try and make things simpler and perhaps look at other countries ways...like my mother used to say "WHERE THERE IS A WILL THERE IS A WAY". Open your eyes and you will see. The Consulates are a joke - no consistency in their interpretation of whatever Immigration guidelines are in place at any given time. Brisbane was definitely one of the better ones, but they all suffer from something which could easily be remedied by a decent web developer working with Immigration in Bangkok - a single, authoritative web presence which listed opening hours at each Consulate and gave you a link to the forms you needed and instructions for completing them along with the necessary documentation. All the exceptions etc could be spelt out on a single site and Immigration could update that site as necessary (along with prior notification to the consulates). Dealing with Thai Immigration locally is all the excitement I need in my life - the thought of hanging around a Consulate waiting for them to dot the i's and cross the t's just to get a 60-day tourist visa does nothing for me. Immigration has nothing to do with embassies and consulates. They are not even part of the same Ministry. Embassies and consulates are under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and immigration is under the Interior Ministry. You seem to lumping embassies and official consulates together with honorary consulates. Most honorary consulates are much easier to deal with than an embassy or official consulate. There is this website that has links to all embassy and official consulate websites. http://www.thaiembassy.org/main/ Of course there are several of them that have little or no useful information. ghworker2010
Does anyone know why he resigned ? it could be because brisbane is the most boring city in the world. Its not called bris vegas by accident... the consulate in bvegas was the friendliest and most efficient consulate I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with... Tomtomtom69
Melbourne is also good and easy to deal with. But I do hope that Brisbane will come online again soon. I recall the same thing happened to Perth a couple of years ago. They closed for a few months then finally re-opened again.
Maestro
I believe that running an honoray consulate is not a profitable business, and that anybody doing it is doing so mostly because of his love of Thailand, not for the consular title that comes with it. Whether it be visas or entry permits or whether they are issued by Immigration or Foreign Affairs in Thailand is irrelevant. I go back to my previous comment "WHERE THERE IS A WILL THERE IS A WAY " Just about all countries S/E Asia have got a better handle on inviting people into there country as Tourists or for other reasons. Thailand is by far the worst at processing visitors to there country.

Brian Allen
Consul-General Mr. William J J Dunn, khrap and Khun Chamaiporn, khrap: I thank you both for a couple of decades or so of the very finest Consular Service - of hundreds of such - in an aviation career that, thus far, has spanned fifty-odd years and an equivalent 650+ Earth circumnavigations - I ever experienced. You will be sorely missed! Khap khun mak khrap! -- Sawatdee khrap.
