Gov't likely to postpone announcement of 6-month performance until end of Songkran

BANGKOK, 24 March 2015 (NNT) - The cabinet plans to propose to Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha to delay the announcement of the government’s six-month performance from April 10th to 17th at 9.00 a.m. after the long holiday of Songkran, according to Government spokesman Yongyuth Maiyalap.

Captain Yongyuth says that on April 17, only Gen Prayut will present an overview of the government’s achievements at the Santi Maitree Building in the Government House. All ministers will take turns providing details of their respective outputs at their respective ministries from April 20th onwards, except on Tuesday which is reserved for a cabinet meeting.

On April 24th, Gen Prayut will once again round up the government’s achievements in his weekly television program “Returning Happiness to the People” broadcast on the NBT. Starting April 27th, each minister will appear, one by one, on the program from at 9.30 p.m. to publicize their work results.

Gen Prayut today gave an interview to two Singaporean news agencies - Straits Times and Channel NewsAsia - to express his grief over the death of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, the first Singaporean Prime Minister and Statesman.

Gen Prayut and his wife are scheduled to visit Malaysia on March 28 to attend the wedding ceremony of the Malaysian PM's son and will continue trip to Singapore on March 29th to pay last respects to Mr. Lee at the state funeral before returning to Thailand on the same day.

What takes them so long?

"We are the best, we accomplished a lot, everybody is happy and I would like everyone, who citicizes me, in front of a firing-squad!"

Here I did it!

You are welcome!

Makes no difference when the 'achievements' are announced, as they have accomplished nothing, except stifling negative opinions.

Ok, ok, they stopped the protests and nightly attacks. As good as that was, it is, and remains, their sole accomplishment.

Didn't NTB oppose one-sided broadcasts that provided lopsided political presentations? Let's see them shutdown Prayut or at least require a rebuttal to Prayut's administration's accomplishments. But that would be more customary to a democratic society where freedom of expression exists.

A delay in reporting its performance from Oct. 2014-March 2015?

Sounds like Prayut is hoping for a miracle as only March 2015 remains for any significant improvement in this six-month period. But already the GDP rate for 2015 was reduced to 2.8% by Kasikorn Research Center yesterday from Prayut's predcited 4%. Prayut's only miracle will be a believable long litany of excuses allegedly beyond his control as the economy continues its collapse. He may even offer some new roadmaps, new committees, new hopes.

Yes, Prayut, the entire world is conspiraing against you to succeed because the whole world does not understand what you are doing to Thailand. Fortunately, as each day passes, the Thai people are realizing exactly what you are doing and its not good for the economy nor for Thai sovereignty.

LKY did say that thaksin was more shrewd and cleverer than his opponents. I think the recent gaffes of the good general proofs the point.

You mean like last time when Yingluck had to be virtually dragged to parliament, one of her rare visits - to then give a much overdue performance report that confirmed nothing had been done. Well apart from the numerous cabinet reshuffles and Yingluck's outstanding air miles achievement.

And what exactly did Yingluck, PTP and the Thaksin puppet show achieve in their years in office?

Oh yes, the Shin family fortune grew 450%.

Nothing else will have mattered to them.

Rich families fortunes always grow. But a 250% increase in incomes in the north is on record - have a wee google. And the Thai economy thrived and largely weathered the GFC and the earlier crisis largely under Thaksin's policies, continued in the most part by the governments that replaced him. The problem is, when you state the cliches you largely need to support them.

Thaksin was not perfect or even close to it but he is one of the more successful Thai leaders of the past 80 years. And no more corrupt than many others (and far less than many).

Just reciting the memes doesn't provide substance to them.

'political presentation'?

This is just a presentation by the NLA selected cabinet, not a single politician amongst them it would seem.

BTW you might have missed that the current government has nothing to do with democracy, only with trying to make a framework which allows a democratic system to flourish. Of course if you think they should behave more democratic to allow the people to get more used to them ... ...

I'm sure next someone will complain that appointment as junta member should be more democratic and open to a vote by the electorate.

Thaksin the economical Wonder Man, allegedly. Two and a half years of austerity measures under Chuan made the Thai long for 'better' times. Enter Thaksin, some still believe he paid of the IMF load himself, whereas he simply refinanced at a price. World Economy booming, Thaksinomics effect of course. End in sight 2006, but Thaksin exit. Interesting to have Thaksin defending 'his' RPPS as 'worthwhile'. I guess we have to ask Costas if something similar is happening in Greece, the 'fed up with austerity' that is.

Anyway, Thaksin 'may' smile 'if' he meets PM Prayut in Singapore. Saintly figure. a few years ago he already stated "when I return and people see I'm not out for revenge all will love me".

With a smile,
