Flash Floods cause chaos around Pattaya

rain-4.jpg

PATTAYA: -- It’s a regular occurrence in Pattaya and causes major disruption to the city and on Tuesday afternoon flash floods returned to Pattaya as persistent and heavy rains caused chaos.

As the rains began, the flash floods soon followed in the usual hot-spots, including the Sukhumvit Road which resembled a river in places. Traffic chaos ensued which was compounded by the ongoing construction work for the new Central Pattaya underpass where work had to stop due to the heavy rains.

They could have partially fixed it at the time they destroyed the old beachwalk area, but they did not. I am not an engineer, but clearly the people who are designing roads and drainage have no idea

Drove down from Korat yesterday, very glad I decided to head to Jomtien from the South (off the 331).

Heading South along Sukhumvit through the centre is a disaster even when its not flooded.

Every year it floods, every year it's news.

Great choice on my part not to head into town due to the ominous skies.

Good for the garden.

Yup, was a shit storm in the making.....love walking through all the shit that was thrown down in the storm drains over the past six months or so......guess it was Spring cleaning before Songkran??.?

Was waiting for the rain to stop in the local bar where we, for many hours? Holding your camera upside downcheesy.gif

There you have it officially. It was only localised flash flooding.... as usual.

Can't wait until they finish those tunnels on Sukhomvit!

Same problem seen in Samui. You may have a hill which slopes to the sea, and still see floods. The cause - storm drains do not end at the sea.

Does it occur to fix the problem that happens at this time every year for decades?

Did you see the video of the water in Top Market in Bangkok shooting up through the floor drain, looked like a river flowing.

They could have partially fixed it at the time they destroyed the old beachwalk area, but they did not. I am not an engineer, but clearly the people who are designing roads and drainage have no idea what they are doing. Yesterday was the worst flooding that I have ever seen on Beach Road in Pattaya (especially from around Central Festival Mall all the way to the overpass leading to Jomtien). What made it worse for many residents and tourists was that the bhat bus drivers decided not to take anybody to Jomtien. It was a real mess. Hundreds of tourists (Chinese and Russian) walking through knee deep crap, and no doubt they will never return to Pattaya-Jomtien. Some had to walk all the way from the "Walking street area" to just pass the overpass to get to Jomtien, where some baht bus drivers were taking passengers to Jomtien. Horrible service! The City needs real buses, along with a plan to prevent the flooding.

No problem in my village !

(It helps that we are on a hill, with newly resurfaced roads, that direct all that nasty water out to soi Khao Noi.)

I was whining to friends back in Canada about how it was raining and the temperatures were down to a brisk 25o C (some of those friends have been experiencing severe snowstorms over the last couple of weeks - I'm sure they appreciate the hardship I'm going through. I almost had to put on a long-sleeved t-shirt for a bit !)

it was lovely in Rayong, the wife didn't have to water the garden ........................

Thanks for that

I took the liberty of rotating your vid by 180 degrees and compressing a little bit.

Now we know why soi Khao Noi is flooded every time it rains.

Chaos: "It’s a regular occurrence in Pattaya"

If you associate with "flash" floods, you are asking for trouble. Decent ordinary honest floods are fine.

If you download VLC media player for free you can rotate your video's.

Every year it floods, every year it's news.

Same as back home.
