SRT governor promises railway service overhaul in 6 months

BANGKOK, 26 March 2015 (NNT) – In a new bid to bring back public confidence in railway transport, the governor of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has promised to carry out a major overhaul of the SRT services within six months.

According to SRT Governor Wuttichart Kalayanamit, urgent tasks include renovation of major train stations across the country, including Bangkok Railway Station, and improvement of train stations’ landscape and facilities, particularly toilets

To quell the deep-rooted notoriety of poor services and rare punctuality, the SRT governor said the procurement of 20 locomotives and 115 new carriages, which will be concluded in July, coupled with construction of 100 new shunting tracks would help speed up trips and transport, thus better enabling passengers and goods to arrive at their destinations on time.

The SRT said the facilities revamp should increase the SRT's transport income, which currently represents five percent, to more than 30 percent in the future. The changes should be noticeable within six months.

5% !! Maybe they should concentrate on their core business, which is to transport people from A to B conveniently and to a fair price.

Instead of being landlords collecting rents from their big land holdings. Which of course is , where the real money is! But not the task you were given originally!!

So back to basics!!

Don't you remember? They overhauled the trains and service last year! A new paint job so it the old shoddy trains look good and more connections which were pointless and time consuming for travelers. One can only wonder if they will do the same to their facilities.

Those new trains will help, but procurement finished July this years means what in delivery of the trains and carriages?

End of September then. Given civil servants sre usually promoted or shifted or retire 1 October, I'm guessing this is a promise he isn't intending to keep.

I hope he does, though. Rail travel could be a fabulous way to travel the country.

Unless old, bent, and misaligned tracks are completely replaced, all SRT will have are new engines and cars on their sides with passengers thrown around like confetti.

Sadly the Governor has to make statements like this. However, if he is to make real improvements, they will be most noticeable by the absences; fewer derailments, collisions, vehicle fires, assaults, delays....

The first thing the Governor should be doing is putting in place trustworthy reporting systems, so that we can see what improvements he has achieved.

all talk, no action!

the way Thailand runs! the ideas are great, but no idea or way to deliver!

I know that a Thai "Promise" is worth more than a "Mull" or a "Ponder", but how does it rank next to a "Vow"??
