A huge whale shark rescued from a fish trap

27-3-2558-11-03-41-wpcf_728x406.jpg

BANGKOK: -- A seven-metre whale shark weighing about 500 kilomgrammes was rescued from an off-shore fish trap this morning by a fishing boat and eventually released into the sea.

The discovery of the whale shark enmeshed in a fish trap was reported by Mr Pachern Inthawong, a fisherman from Si Racha, who went fishing at the fish trap off Si Racha district of Chon Buri.

He said he found an unusual whirlpool at the fish trap and a closer look showed that a whale shark was trapped. He tied a rope to the tail of the shark and pulled it toward the shore where a religious ritual was quickly held before the animal was released back into the sea.

Fishermen believe that finding a big fish in the sea is a blessing as it is a proof that the sea is abundant with marine lives.

Mr Chatchai Timkrachang, president of the fishery association of Chon Buri, said rains from the past few days might have driven nutrients into the sea, prompting small fish to converge to eat the nutrients whereas big fish followed to feed on the small fish.

Workers from neighbouring countries must renew permit within 29 June

BANGKOK, 27 March 2015 (NNT) – Employers of neighboring foreign workers are required to renew their employee's work permits within 29 June, while neighboring countries have provided assistance in the nationality verification process, says the DOE Director-General.

The Director-General of the Department of Employment (DOE) has revealed that the cabinet has approved an extension of the nationality verification deadline for workers from neighbouring countries. The deadline will be extended for one year from the previous deadline on 31 March 2015.

The director general stated that employers are required to take their employees from neighbouring countries to renew their work permit within 29 June 2015, while workers will be allowed temporary residence and granted a work permit in Thailand for one more year, from 1 April 2015 to 31 March 2016. This extension will allow them to undergo the nationality verification process.

According to the DOE Director-General, there are currently 440,621 workers from Cambodia and Laos requesting nationality verification, while 16,394 workers from Myanmar have been verified by the Myanmar Embassy in Thailand from the total 1,626,235 registered workers. The total number of the verified foreign workers is currently at 145,046.

The Director-General of DOE has said that more officials from Myanmar will assist the nationality verification team, while Laos will continue the nationality verification service as normal, and Cambodia will also add more officials in case of shortage.

Regarding the slow nationality verification process, the DOE Director-General explained that the limited number of officials and inadequate documentations of each worker has complicated the procedures but this issue has already been resolved.

The Director-General of DOE has also mentioned about the shortage of workers in the fisheries industry, saying that the cabinet has approved the registration of foreign workers in marine fisheries at 22 provinces within 90 days from 1 April 2015, at the foreign workers registration one stop service center.
