Phuket man found hanging from door handle

PHUKET: -- A 42-year-old man was found hanging from the door handle of his house this morning (March 30). Family members told police they believed the man hung himself due to his father nagging him.

At 8am, Wichit police were called to investigate an incident where a man had been found hanging from a door handle in a house at Baan Chaiyawat Bumpen soi Sookniran on Choa Fa East Rd in Wichit.

Police arrived at a one-storey house with Kusolharm rescue workers and in the living room found the body of a shirtless man, named as Sitthiporn Bumpen, 42, hanging from a door handle by a length of electrical wire.

The other end of the wire was plugged into an electrical socket on the wall.

Police said that they found no signs of foul play or assault and the only visible wound to Mr Sitthiporn was what appeared to be either bruising or burn marks around his neck. Police said the victim has been dead for at least six hours.

Police learned that yesterday evening (March 29), Mr Sitthiporn was scolded by his father about how he lives his life and that he did not take his career seriously.

Mr Sitthiporn, hurt by his father comments, went out to drink and came back at around midnight while everyone was asleep. Family members woke up this morning to find him hanging from the door handle.

Rescue took the body to Vachira hospital and police will wait for the results of the autopsy before ruling the death as suicide.

You better have said ......he electrocuted himself and not found hanging from a door handle.

I was thinking......what was he a dwarf?

Anyway.....may he Rests in Peace.

Plenty of people hang themselves from door handles. You don't need to tie a rope to the rafters and jump off a chair.

Yes very popular in Scotland as a means of suicide, usually done with a wire coat hanger sprung open to get over the head one 'v' into the windpipe the other over the door handle and sit down. The shape of the coat hanger actually speeds unconsciousness as it tends to constrict the blood flow.

Maybe not, but you'd have to jump out of the window in my house!

Yes very popular in Scotland as a means of suicide [...]

Thanks for the context information, but there is no need for a detailed guide of how to execute this method.

He comes home after drinking, finds himself an electrical wire with plug, and hangs himself from the knob, and nobody wakes up.

Exact thoughts as my friend Costas2008 but why a autopsy when noticeable burn marks were seen, maybe they check for food poisoning or collision with a hit and run driver.

Thanks for the tip. I'll keep it in mind whenever my Scots friends stay over, after a few dramscoffee1.gif

Thanks to my father for nagging me and making me into a man who can withstand the trials and tribulations. I'll take life over suicide.

Yep...Johnny Cash and a "A boy called Sue' springs to mind.

Regyai, I having been a paramedic in South Africa for nearly 35 years, have seen many many suicides. I have never seen this type of usage for a coathanger before. Just learn't something new. Now don't try this at home.

Why, have you seen the postmortem report? He. probably wasn't a dwarf nor was he probably as small-minded as you.

"...why a autopsy when noticeable burn marks were seen..."

Because there weren't only "noticeable burn marks", there was either bruising or burn marks.

Must have been a strong door handle fitted to a reasonably strong door

In my house you would be on your arse if you tried it

Broken door handle and the door ripped off the frame

Sad to hear anyone takes their own life. If the story is true, it points to a fundamental issue in Thailand, and much of the world, where people have been coddled too much of their lives, and especially as children, and when they become 'adults' they simply cannot take criticism.
