the little tapioca balls must exist around here as they are used in bubble tea and also in a Thai dessert... easiest thing to make I used to make it with chocolate chips.. yes it was good.

Bob ,you can get the packets of Tapioca (or frogs spawn,as we used to call it staple school meals)

at Rimping, and easy make it yourself if you have an oven, its just tapioca, milk and sugar, some butter on

top to brown its, getting rice suitable to make a good rice pudding is a lot harder to find, used to buy small

packets of Japanese rice, which did the job,but the only seem to have 5 kg bags, which would last for ever.

The second picture looks more like rice pudding with mango on top,I don't think anyone will have it on

their menus, but Thais make a lot of sweet dishes with it.Sago is another one to make puddings.

If I remember correctly,Rimping also has (sometimes) tins of Ambrosia tapioca, ready made but expensive

for what it is 160 THB ?

Yes I've seen and bought both tapioca and semolina in Rimping. One day I'll get around to making the pudding. ...to hot at the moment but perhaps if I chill it down afterwards it would be ok.

The very mention of 'tapioca pudding' still brings back tastes and images of school dinners more than half a century ago. Ugh!!

I think I was the only person at our school who actually liked frogspawn. Readily available and very easy to make if you have a microwave.

It also tasted better with a dollop of jam, cheap and filled you up,that was a must

in those days.

Semolina hate the muck since I was a school kid.

Sago even worse, once saw it being made way up in the jungle on the border Brunei/Sarawak, hate it as a kid and will die of starvation after watching a 'Balsa' like tree being ground up and the mess being stamped thought coir matting to give Sago.

Now Rice Pudding, Bought once in Rimping at extortionate price and Twice in Tops on the discount pile, very nice, wish I could cook.

It's so easy - all you need is rice, milk, a couple of drops of vanilla extract and a couple of slivers of butter. Microwave then add a bit of cream and sugar if it's not sweet enough for you (or sultana's if you like them). Cooking tapioca, sago and semolina is basically the same. Rice pudding is one of the easiest things you can make. Have a shot at it; you might surprise yourself (mine is better than Ambrosia).

My mum use to make the best rice pudding. Full cream milk and when it came out of the oven all six of us kids would fight to get the 'skin' off the top. Loved the stuff. Unfortunately when I joined the Army the cooks had no idea how to do a good rice pud. But then everyone new the cooks as 'Fitter and Turners' that being "Fit it into a pot and Turn it into <deleted>"
