This morning I wanted to pick up a few things at the Rim Ping convenience store at J J Market on the north side of Chiang Mai. I was surprised, however, to see that the store was being emptied out down to the bare walls.

A sign on the door said that they were moving to the Home Pro building in San Sai. The move is scheduled to be complete on April 25. That location is on Highway 121 (the outer ring road), just west of the intersection with the east branch of Highway 1001.

(I think I recently saw a highway sign that identified this section of Highway 1001 as another number. Sorry, I didn't make note of the number, but whatever it is, it should iron out some of the confusion of having two roads with the same number. The other 1001 goes from the Super Highway #11 to Mae Jo and beyond.)

Sounds like a good move - JJ Market was really not a wise choice for this kind of premium retail store.

If I am correct, there are quite a lot of upscale moo baans in this area, and the only supermarket nearby which I once visited (and left rather quickly) is a gloomy and rather unfriendly Tesco Lotus.

Has anybody heard the rumour that Rimping will open in Vientiane?

Cant say Ive heard that one but yes Rimping is definitely setting up in Home Pro. The weasel coffee shop has moved as has the furniture shop and Rimping will fill up their vacant shop space.

Now I`ll have an excuse to go to the hardware shop! Not that I buy a lot there...... Nana Screw and Global get most of my business. But its good to have a browse every now and then

Hope the move helps business at Home Pro. I honestly don't see how they stay in business at that location. There are probably 3-4 employees for every customer - no exaggeration. Great store though. Don't understand why there is rarely a customer in there.

Right, I live just next door.
As it is convenient to use this huge void store for DIY I am glad of the change that will enable it might survive.
Opposite Rimping small inexpensive restaurant serves good French fries (but inedible omelette)
Please, note that parking motobike at the end is one of the most ill-conceived to my knowledge and I sometimes dream to wring the neck of its designer. Now I use my car for go.
At last 700 meters northwest right we find the Organic restaurant not well known Western with delicious salads and the best ribs in the city.
