Asian Air’s charter flight with 233 passengers stranded at Don Mueang airport

BANGKOK: -- A charter flight of Asian Air with 233 passengers was stranded at Don Muaeng airport Friday night after it was not granted permission to fly into Japan.

All the passengers, mostly Thais, with homes in Bangkok were refunded, while those living in the provinces were given accommodations overnight at hotels arranged by the airline.

Civil Aviation Department director general Somchai Phiphutwat said the incident happened because the airline could not produce safety inspection documents to Japan Civil Aviation Bureau in time for check before the flight could leave.

He said Asian Air sent the required documents to JCAB late or after its 5.00 pm office hours.

The documents were not processed, resulting in no response to its flight permission to Japan, he said.

Therefore it could not fly to Japan, he said.

The airline has refunded its passengers 2,400 baht each and arranged accommodations for passengers who came from the provinces.

He also denied a report that South Korea has eased restriction on charter flights of Nok Scoot and Thai Asia X airlines, saying Thailand is still awaiting answer from South Korea after the negotiation was held.

Wellll, wouldn't be too quick to judge.

As far as I know ASIAN AIR has not lost an aircraft and all on board. Can't say the same for Air Asia which flouted regulations out of Indonesia and went into the Ocean. Aside from that, have to agree, many of these carriers should probably be banned from the skies.

BANGKOK: -- Some 100 people were stranded at Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport yesterday morning after being unable to board a chartered flight to Japan.

Following a 1am announcement that Asian Air flight number DM 464 was unable to fly to Sapporo City, about 100 people out of the 233 affected passengers gathered at the terminal's third gate.

Asian Air executive David Srichai-udom and a team from the airline briefed them and reportedly promised to refund the cost of the tickets within seven days as well as compensate them for lost time and for having to pay for accommodation near the airport.

Passenger Wichit Euaweerawat, 65, said he and 10 friends were disappointed as they had bought a tour to Hokkaido at Bt55,000 per head.

The flight was reportedly cancelled because it had not been approved by Japan's civil aviation authority.

The CAD is a civil service department of any government and NOT specifically for the current government.

Please note that it was Asian Air's decision to refund 2,400 baht to each passenger and arrange accommodation and NOT the government.

Years ago there was an airline in Canada called Canadian Airlines. And another called Air Canada. I assume they sued each other until one went broke. But then, by simply reading the name, one could see the difference. Law suits are definitely the answer.
