Songkran procession carries Phra Phuttha Sihing for people to pay respect

BANGKOK, 12 April 2015 (NNT) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has organized a ceremony to place Phra Phuttha Sihing at a ceremonial site at Sanam Luang as part of Songkran celebrations in the capital city this year.

Bangkok Governor M.R. Suphumbhand Paribatra on Sunday presided over the ceremony to move the revered Phra Phuttha Sihing Buddha image from the Grand Palace to Sanam Luang. A procession was arranged to carry Phra Phuttha Sihing from Sanam Luang, passing Wong Wian Yai and Phra Arthit road, to Khao San road for people to pour scented water onto the Buddha image before it returned to Sanam Luang at 5PM.

M.R. Sukhumband said Phra Phuttha Sihing was highly respected in Thailand and the ceremony today was an act of preserving culture. As for safety during the Songkran festival, he said the public could help ensuring safety by driving safely and alerting security officers of suspicious activities.
