Search under way for 700 migrants lost at sea south of Italy

ROME (AP) — A major air and sea search and rescue operation is under way south of the Italian island of Lampedusa after a migrant ship capsized.

Italy's ANSA news agency says an estimated 700 people were aboard and only 28 people have been rescued so far.

Barbara Molinario, spokeswoman for the United Nations refugee agency, said Sunday that the Coast Guard operation is continuing. She says the number of victims is not known.

The capsizing comes amid a wave of migrants trying to leave Libya for Italian shores. So far, at least 900 have died trying this year as boats capsized.

While this is a very, very sad tragedy the facts are simple; these people pay LOTS of money to get onto those boats.

I've never heard of a Northafrican or Eritrean "refugee" with means (to pay for the exorbitant fare) fleeing into Algeria, Egypt or southwards, where they have a more similar culture, food, society structure and ..... no water to get drowned by touts.

The boat operators are not keen to do anything to fulfil promises while it leaves the Europeans in each and every case behind with a guilty conscience - Italy's Lampedusa is grossly misused for that.

The enclosed picture (with German caption) reads "Those who escape to Christian countries are those who throw Christians over board". I know this is politically incorrect but maybe it is time to throw that political correctness bulls....t overboard.

The problem is in those countries and not with Europe. 170'000 this year alone; that's 1'500 each and every day. Most of them (and I really mean most of them) "flee" for social welfare handouts, crime and no intention to contribute their part to the deal.

It's Europe and Australia and it is from the Muslim world to Christian shores and the sheer fact, that Christians have a complete different and more valuable mind set the world can be sucked dry by those sons and daughters from the mosques. And if anyone things that this is a regional problem - they're wrong. Nobody stopped the Nazis as the world thought it is a regional problem by a minority - think twice as the writing is on the wall!

In days gone by it was the done thing to sink boats of hostile invaders who sought to impose their laws and religion on a nation and make it's people second class citizens, the Spanish Armada springs to mind. Nowadays it seems to be the norm to rescue boatloads of hostile invaders, give them preferential treatment and waive enforcement of our own laws in deference to them.
