A Thai student acquaintance of mine is really steamed. She's trying to go to the U.K. to study at the invitation of one of the big London music schools there- she had to do a video recital and send it just to be considered, and she was awarded a very high grade- at the age of just 15. I suppose she applied for some sort of student visa, as instructed by the music school. She was apparently refused on the grounds of "applicant not found suitable for this type of visa" or something like that- it clearly implied they didn't think she was worthy.

Her family has oodles of money and she's been abroad to many countries before. In appearance, she looks like the stereotypical Asian Chinese Thai nerdy girl with glasses and braces. She speaks nearly idiomatic British-accented English.

What's the matter? Why wouldn't they want someone like this who could pay her way? Any ideas or suggestions I can give her?

Applicant not suitable "or something like that" is kinda vague. Unless you know the whole story it would be hard to even guess why. Could be myriad reasons ....

Quite, a lot more detail is needed before we can comment or advise.

Did she provide all the requested documents on the checklist?

Did she complete the Student Questionnaire fully and accurately?

What, exactly, does the refusal notice say?

Although, her first step should be to contact the school and ask their advice.

The reason given does sound like nonsense, Steven. But, of course, we only have what she said to go on and it may be, as others have said, that there was insufficient documentation or something like that. I do hope she can get the decision reviewed, she sounds like a fine student.
