Can I bring in some computer parts on my trip to Thailand?

Featured Replies

I want to surprise my Daughter in Law and build her a computer, but instead of carrying the whole computer, I just want to

pack in my luggage the motherboard, cpu and memory and build the rest in Thailand when I am there. Is there

custom duties on these parts when I bring them in as a gift? I will be staying in Thailand for about a month and was

wondering if they charge duties on these parts?

I wouldn't declare anything, just put the parts into your luggage, even if Thai customs see the parts, they are very unlikely to show any interest in them.

I took IT equipment in several times, many in the luggage (they x-rayed it), some as a separate medium-tower sized box with a picture of a computer on it, I took a 28 inch monitor in (the box is huge) as well as a 30 Kg color laser printer in its orginal Dell box (even hugerer, happy to fly with a middle east carrier). Customs x-rayed the printer, but I was never asked for anything.

To be really safe, take it out of the original packaging....as much as you can, anyway. My friend just came in with 6 3TB hard drives and all sorts of other stuff. No problems at all....

Pretty much agree with the above.

Technically there's duty to pay, practically the customs chaps at the airport are after easier targets (cigs and booze).
