Whitty772 Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 We recently want to travel to Vietnam for holiday. We got passports for my partner and son. Booked tickets and arrived at the airport. When we arrived at immigration we were asked to go with the immigration officer. We were asked for my sons birth certificate which we did not have with us. We were asked could we go and get it. Not possible 2 hour drive. There was much deliberation and eventually we were allowed to travel, but not until we were told many times with out birth certificate we could not travel. I do not understand all this information is logged on the computer when you get the passport why do they have to see it again. I was with my partner his mother and I am his Dad registered when we got his passport. I am posting this to warn others to be prepared if they are taking a little one out of the country. Have their birth certificate with you. I am sure if we had been going to England we would not have been allowed to travel.
craigt3365 Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Great warning. A link will be left here, but I think this would also be good over in the family forum. So...let's move it over there. Glad it worked out for you. Topic Moved.
saakura Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Strange and maybe a new rule? We have travelled overseas many times in the last 5 years with our child without being asked for this document.
evadgib Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 (edited) This makes a mockery of having passport(s). I suspect suspicion of surrogacy is the likely cause. Were Thai couples with infants stopped too? Edited April 24, 2015 by evadgib
Whitty772 Posted April 24, 2015 Author Posted April 24, 2015 I believe this only happens when you take baby out of Thailand for the first time. Yes I think it has come about because of surrogacy.
Mario2008 Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Immigration always advises that on the first trip abroad you should have the birth certificate with you. In addition, human trafficking is a major focus of immigration.
