Bangkok:- A man who snatched a gold necklace from a Myanmar woman mysteriously disappeared into a Bangkok drainage canal Sunday, police said.

Police scratched their head after the alleged robber disappeared. Police and Portecktueng Foundation officials spent over six hours but failed to locate the alleged necklace snatcher.

Anyway, police knew the man identity as his belt bag was accidentally dropped before he disappeared into into the canal's drainage tunnel. Police identified him as Thawee Jakkaewkoraburi, 34, from Nakhon Ratchasima.

Pol Lt Anan Puangnil, deputy crime suppression inspector of Wat Phrayakrai police station, was informed of the necklace snatching at 10 am.

He was informed that Nanthida Myanwelui, 22, a Myanmar worker, became a victim of a necklace snatcher. She said she was walking from her house on Soi Phrasram 3 when a man snatched her Bt10,000-worth gold necklace from behind.

She said she ran after the man who entered a taxi. But the taxi driver saw her running after the man so the taxi refused to drive.

The man then got out of the taxi and ran to a roadside park that has a drainage canal. The man then ran into the drainage canal that has a 100-meter-long tunnel that empties into Bang Khok Canal.

Police surrounded the entrance to the drainage tunnel and shouted to the man, telling him to surrender to no avail.

Police sough help from the Portektueng Foundation officials to check the tunnel but no one was found.

Police said the man has earlier been arrested twice on drug charges.

''you, you, come here so we can arrest you''

One thing more useless than a cretin is a lazy cretin, one thing worse than that is a bunch of them.

Another criminal mastermind with enough intelligence to know the BIB aren't going to risk getting those tailored Uniforms dirty.

Not quite the complete 'mastermind' as he dropped his ID while escaping.

Wouldn't it save the taxpayers money and cut down on the number of victims if the government would just give this idiot his drugs? Save on court costs and prison costs too. I'll bet the police have more drugs than they can sell. Thieving is one of the hidden costs of drug prohibition not to mention the increased costs of insurance. Legalize recreational drugs and fire half the police force and the other half will have to find work other than selling protection to drug dealers. Hell, they might even do a little honest police work (but I doubt it).

it won't be drowning that takes him out - the canal's DHMO will poison him.

Who's to know whether or not the thief's previous victim wasn't the druggie?

Mighty expensive belonging for a Burmese blue collar person...

Yep thats the story legalise drugs so anyone can become an addict, then all the legal drug addicts have to do is to rob someone to get funds to buy their fix.

Yes because Holland where weed is legal had so many more drug problems as countries that did not make it legal. (sarcasm)

Isn't this what (Police) dogs are for?

Would you send your dog into a drainage klong?

Who owns Police dogs and why? Guess what often happens to the EOD variant!

What happens to the EOD variant? Why can't you just tell us all what happens to the EOD variant without us trying to guess? Why didn't you answer the question of putting your own dog in the drainage klong first? (That was my original post) You have responded with nothing but babbling speculative questions that I doubt you can answer yourself.

Since when has a law prevented anyone from doing anything they really want to do? Take the MC helmet law for example or driving MC on the wrong side of the street, and on and on. Every one who wants to use/abuse drugs can do so with no interference from the police; in fact, in many cases the police are involved in the drug trade. Those that don't use drugs won't begin using them simply because they are decriminalized. I certainly won't. The corruption of law enforcement by the huge amount of money in prohibited drugs is scandalous and if you took the profit element out of it there would be no reason for peddlers to entice non-users to get addicted. There are millions upon millions of ya ba pills confiscated every week. Do you really think the law is working or is it creating criminal empires (which pay no taxes and invest in other illicit enterprises) and corrupting law enforcement and judges? Most people who use recreational drugs are not addicts and the money saved from not hiring police (who become corrupted) to enforce an unenforceable law could be used to treat those addicts medically through retraining and withdrawal treatments. Muggings and burglary rates will drop and associated insurance costs will drop also. Think how much of the national budget is spent on police, courts, judges, prisons, guards, etc. in a quest for the impossibility of a drug-free nation. Thaksin had thousands murdered to stop drugs; how effective was that? Spain has decriminalized personal use of almost all recreational drugs and yet you don't read about an increase in drug use there. In the Netherlands, marijuana use by teens is amongst the lowest in Europe and yet it is freely available. Explain that.

Confirmation that topical and reasonable observation evaded this particular poster.
