Where can I buy... 10 metre 'crabbie' poles?

Featured Replies

These are telescopic, fibreglass poles that are used by people who fish, (I have no idea what they use them for, cos I'm no fisherman).

They are typically about 10 metres in length when extended. I use them to support my amateur radio antennas, but have exhausted the poles that I brought with me from the UK.

Breaker breaker. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

I'd go check all the stevedores near boat lagoon. Your local fishing shop won't have them for sure.

Never really been into the radio thing, what do you guys do, just chat to people or something?

Thanks for the replies - perhaps I'll have to buy them off Ebay.

Yes, but for me, it is more of a technical hobby, designing and building antennas and equipment, then getting satisfaction of my little radio signal beaming out from my garden antenna and being received on the other side of the world.

I spent many years as an antenna and radio comms designer, hence my interest in these technical matters.

But in this modern age, ham radio can seem a little 'old-fashioned'.

But don't knock it - as with many other natural disasters, some of the first communications after the Nepal earthquake were implemented by hams.
