mat999 Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I saw a very nice looking bicycle in Central department store (Tiger Pedal). I looked it up online and it is advertised at 2,000 baht cheaper, so I was wondering if anyone knew a bike shop that stocks Tiger bicycles in Chiang Mai? Also if anyone has comments about Tiger bikes quality that would be welcome. I went the LA Bike route last year and they are terrible, Tiger is the next step up in cost without going to the premium level of Trek. Thanks.
CNXBKKMAN Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 If its a mountain bike type you are after i wouldnt buy anything below a Trek 3700 which sell for 12500 to 13000 baht. That bike is good value and will be enjoyable to ride. You could be riding and enjoying it for years and years. Having just looked at the tiger bikes website they look poor quality and i would only consider buying if it was for child to ride around a gated mooban or you only need it to cover the odd mile to the nearest shops or market. My advice splurge to 13k and buy the Trek and use it. That's 1300 baht a year for the next 10 years. If you use it you can save more than that in songtaow tuk tuk fares. I bought one for my girlfriend last October at Chaitawat bike shop. 13k included bright LED lights and a waterbottle and cage. The same bike sells for about 20k (gbp400) in the UK. 1
mat999 Posted May 1, 2015 Author Posted May 1, 2015 Thanks for the advice. As I won't be here 10 years and don't need a mountain bike I can't justify a Trek. Will probably just pick up a cheap but decent second hand old bike.
CNXBKKMAN Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 There are shops selling second hand japanese bikes dotted around town. They have gears, basket , rack on the back , alloy wheels. No problem for 15 mile rides out of the city into the country side. 2500-3500 baht. You can sell it later pretty much for what you bought it for. Check out "seconhand chiang mai" facebook page bikes get posted on there. 1
