Locals upset over museum move

People in Nakhon Pathom intend to protest in the middle of this month against the Fine Arts Department's plan to move 1,873 ancient items out of the province's Phra Phathom National Museum to the Uthong National Museum in Suphan Buri province instead. The museum would be closed and its personnel would be transferred to Suphan Buri.

Princess appointed

BANGKOK: -- HRH Princess Bajra Kitiyabha has been appointed as an attorney at the Office of the Attorney-General's Department of Narcotics Litigation, according to the Prime Minister's Office announcement published on the Royal Gazette website on Friday.

The appointment took effect retrospectively from April 1.

The princess had previously worked as Nong Bua Lamphu provincial attorney at the Office of the Attorney-General.

A fire, which broke out at a recycling factory in Ang Thong's Pho Thong district on Friday night, was suspected to have been caused by the naturally cumulative heat of compressed plastic piles, provincial police deputy chief Pol Colonel Chudech Kongkanpai said yesterday.

Pornpetch Wichitcholchai, National Legislative Assembly president, says Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha can’t use his Section 44 powers to hold a referendum on the draft constitution. The referendum must involve a joint initiative by the cabinet, according to the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) and the National Legislative Assembly (NLA).

Thailand remains on the United States list of the world’s worst offenders when it comes to intellectual property law. Issued on Friday, Thailand has now been on the list for nine years in a row. The country was first added to the list after it allowed companies to manufacture medications that are legally the property of U.S. companies.

More Thais are returning to Thailand following the Nepal earthquake. Thursday night, 14 nationals returned to Thailand aboard military transport flights. Since the earthquake struck, there has been 83 Thais that have returned to the country safely.

BMA urges owners of building built before 2007 to check structure
The Nation

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has urged owners of building built before 2007 to seek formal check of their building structure to see whether they could withstand major earthquakes.

Pattarut Thatthanon, director of the BMA's Public Works Department, said the buildings that were built before 2007 were not required by the BMA building rules to be quake-proof so the building owners should voluntarily check their structures for the safety of tenants.

Three small quakes happen in the North

BANGKOK: -- Three small earthquakes happened in Myanmar and in two northern provinces of Thailand Saturday, the Seismological Bureau reported.

The bureau of the Meteorological Department said a quake with 1.9 magnitude happened 84 kilometres northeast of Mae Hong Son at 9:53 pm.

Another quake with 1.6 magnitude happened in Chiang Rai's Wiengchai district at 5:53 pm. Another quake with 1.8 magnitude happened in Phayao's Chiang Muan district at 6:50 pm.
