Sure, there are traffic jams and the roar of motors, but it brings big business to those neighborhoods. If you don't like it, try petitioning the local government officials to ban it.

Samui Bike Week was started by Screaming Eagle and Samui Pirates MC with Ohm from Ohm Big Bikes in Samui as a way of raising money for charity while having some fun and had nothing to do with TAT. Screaming Eagle was a victim of Involuntary Suicide 4 years ago...

And where is it? At IT complex in Lamai or Phru Chaweng? Isn't really clear.

Any idea what charity the money is raised for? Thx.

Yes..... and from what I remember it starts very early and most people will still be sleeping before it's finished !

There are many practicing on Soi1 between Maenam and Lamai, actually it's common to see serious cyclists on that road all year round..... thumbsup.gif

I know where it was held last year, this years poster has no info though. Most likely it will be held at Phru Chaweng, it would be nice to have a confirmation about the location.

Exactly ! Now after three days of these tatooed hooligans (some 300 of the a---holes) clattering around the island and clogging up the few roads that exist on Samui, it is hardly worth venturing out. Just a bunch of ego saturated low lifes with a "look at me, aint I cool" attitude. Not the quality type tourist Samui needs or deserves !

C'mon, where I live here in Hua Thanon, these yobboes come hurtling past Rocky's at 150km/h into the stretch to the Hua Thanon market, a built up area with children and shoppers. Total disregard for Samui's speed signs and a deadly accident just waiting to happen !

What's with all the negative stuff from posters here? All I saw was lines of very orderly and often lovely looking motorcycles being ridden by people who were very pleasant and polite both off and on the bikes. Most groups had proper official police escorts. I saw no effect at all on traffic. The noise was very little for a short few minutes each time they passed. They brought money and attention to Samui, stayed and paid in hotels and resorts, ate food and bought stuff in shops. What the heck is wrong with all you narrow minded, anal-retentive dorks posting negative comments about such a small 2 day event. Seems to me like y'all need to go and get a life!

I hope Samui Bike Week keeps running every year on and on... and I sincerely hope it annoys all you nay-sayers more and more every single year. In fact, I reckon I'll go and buy myself the biggest noisiest motorcycle I can find right now just so I can know I am annoying narrow minded whinging <deleted> all the more!

I still laugh at this memory. Sceaming Eagle may he rest is peace, bringing his loud chopper to stir you up at the Thaivisa party at the Emerald bar a few years ago. The look on your face priceless.

Yeah right... 150km/h past Rocky's... you are in dreamland mate... and 'an accident waiting to happen' ... that has never actually happened! ... and 'Yobboes' ... so all big bike owners are yobboes are they? (By the way, I think you will find the term is actually 'yobbo' not 'yobboe')... of course, YOU stick rigidly to Samui's speed limits don't you? lol Jeeeez, just how prejudiced can one person be? A little fact you may be interested in (but probably won't be as it would shatter your image of speeding, tattooed 'yooboes' endangering the innocent lives of children)... do you know how many accidents involving 'Big Bikes' (over, say 400cc) have actually happened on Samui in the last 3 years? Let me educate you... NONE! That's right... NONE... ZERO... sorry to burst yer crusty bubble Crusty lol

What size engine powered the bike in the fatal RTA outside Supot that killed a 68 yo French woman?

(I'm all for bike week btw:) )

It was actually a brand new Honda 150cc pocket rocket involved in that awful incident... there were originally reports that it was a Ducati (probably because it was a red bike... red being a classic Ducati colour), however these were wrong. Originally I was going to say that there have been no 'Big Bike' accidents on Samui for the last 8 years - as far as I am aware (and I am actually in a position to know this kind of stuff) - but I thought it was just too unbelievable lol ... the last 'Big Bike' accident that I am aware of actually involved a good mate some 8 years ago on his huge Harley, on the main road just outside the turning for NaPhalarn Temple ... and it wasn't his fault ... a young lad was showing off on his 125 and cut in front of the Harley knocking the front wheel... it had no place to go but down! So really that doesn't even count. 7 years ago there was a Singaporean guy on holiday who lost control of his rented Phantom (200cc) outside the postoffice in Maenam... and that is all that I am aware of... the rest are exclusively the smaller scoots 100 - 125cc, and a couple of the 150cc pocket rockets. The bigger bikes may be a tad noisy sometimes (!), but I think it is safe to say that the riders of the bigger bikes (specifically on Samui) tend to be older, more mature in their outlook, more 'at home' with their rides (and therefore don't need to ride like nutters to prove anything to anyone), and actually value their rides. They also tend to have much more experience (and miles/kilometres) under their belt than the young kids whizzing around like loonies on Samui, and are therefore - effectively - 'better' riders generally. My opinion anyway. BTW... yes... I do ride a 'Big Bike' ... a 750 chopper, and yes... she could be considered a tad noisy (but nowhere near as noisy as those f^*"kin lorries that have open pipes and belch black smoke all over the place!)... FTW :)
