Chaiyaphum takes Royal Ploughing Day to commence ploughing season

CHAIYAPHUM, 13 May 2015 (NNT) - Rice farmers in the Province have taken the auspicious occasion of Royal Ploughing Day to start sowing rice seeds into the fields, hoping the day will bring fertility to their crops and also higher prices.

In various villages in Mueang District and Ban Khwao District, farmers began their rice planting early in the morning. They believed that rice planted on the day would be fertile because of the sacred Royal Ploughing Ceremony held on the day.

They wished rains would be normal during the planting season. They also hoped that prices of rice would be higher than previous years so that they could earn more for their families. However, farmers admitted that the fertility of crops depends mainly on their contribution and care given to rice fields.
