Nepal rescuers find 3 bodies near crashed US Marine chopper

NRC meeting debates new political structure, 1997 charter suggested if new constitution is rejected

BANGKOK, 15 May 2015 (NNT) - The National Reform Council (NRC) has affirmed that today’s meeting between political parties and civic groups is to obtain input from all sides in the charter drafting process. The Pheu Thai Party has suggested that the country revert to the 1997 constitution, should the draft constitution be rejected.

Chavalit predicts more coups

Yongyuth resigns as government spokesman

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said Friday that he has approved the resignation of Government Spokesman Yongyuth Mayalarp.

Prayut said Yongyuth resigned because he has health problem.

Prayut said PM's Secretary General Wilas Aroonsri will become acting government spokesman.

Labour Minister to discuss shorter return period of Myanmar workers

BANGKOK, 15 May 2015 (NNT) – The Minister of Labour is scheduled to discuss with his Myanmar counterpart on the reducing the return period of workers from Myanmar as specified on the Memorandum of Understanding.


The Minister of Labour Gen Surasak Karnjanarat is scheduled to visit Myanmar on 21-23 May 2015 to discuss with the Myanmar Minister of Labour on amending the existing Memorandum of Understanding in order to reduce Myanmar workers' return duration.

The current MOU requires Myanmar workers to return to their countries after 4 years in Thailand, and to remain in Myanmar for 3 years during this return period. The new conditions sought after from the Thai side intends to reduce the return period of Myanmar workers to 3 months, in an attempt to solve labour shortages.

The Thai Minister of Labour will also ask for Myanmar's cooperation in facilitating the issuance process of passports for Myanmar workers to Thailand to encourage more legal employment. In addition, the Thai Ministry of Labour will help reduce the processing fee and simplify the procedures of work permit registrations.

The Thai Minister of Labour will also hold discussions with the Indonesian and the Philippines counterparts, requesting them to help take care of Thai workers in both countries.

Meanwhile, the Director-General of the Department of Employment Sumet Mahosot has revealed that 203,129 workers' nationality, from the total of 1.6 million workers, have been verified in the nationality verification process. So far, 16,394 have been verified as Myanmar, 160,151 are from Cambodia, and 26,584 are from Laos.

Luang Phor Koon hospitalized with spontaneous pneumothorax

KORAT: -- Luang Phor Koon Parisutho is suffering from spontaneous pneumothorax with phlegm blocking his respiratory system, according to Dr Som-art Tangcharoen, director of Nakhon Ratchasima Maharaj hospital.

The revered abbot of Wat Ban Rai in Dan Khun Thod district collapsed and went into coma at about 5.45 Friday morning and was rushed to Dan Khun Thod hospital.

His heart stopped briefly and had to be administered with CPR for about one hour before he was revived and assisted with respiratory system. Later on, he was transferred to Nakhon Ratchasim Maharaj hospital.

Although his condition has stabilized, the abbot is still kept at the intensive care unit and under the close watch of a team of physicians, said the hospital’s announcement.

As his pulse is still not stable, all visits by his followers are prohibited, the announcement added.

NRC’s Direk: 3 months’ delay of election is acceptable if public referendum is held

BANGKOK, 15 May 2015 (NNT) - A member of the National Reform Council has suggested that it is acceptable if Thailand will have to wait three months for the next election because of a public referendum on the new charter.
