For any expats raising kids in Songkhla Town, the Sunshine British International School is offering scholarships for new expat students.

I put my daughter in there a few weeks ago and she loves it, saying she learns more in an hour there than she did in a whole week at the Thai Government School she was in before.

Not surprising as her class sizes went from 50+ down to just four. It's a true British curriculum and the homework assignments encourage enquiry and creativity, not rote memorization.

For anyone interested you can Google the name to get to their FB page or message me for more info as I really want this school to thrive!

A class size of four ? Really?

How many classes of four ?

Is this place viable ?

My daughter's class is the oldest, grade 5-6, and also the smallest. They have more kids in the younger primary groups.

They also have classes for kindergarten kids taught by native speakers, which is the crucial age of language acquisition.

A lot of the students are children of Malay and Indonesian consular people and businessmen.

The school grounds are on the former consulate of Indonesia or Malaysia -- I forget which.

It's located on Kanchanawanich Road Soi 29.

Personally I never thought I could afford to have my daughter in an international school, but the cost is very reasonable, especially with the scholarships.

It started as a home-school a few years ago, but it is now an accredited international school with a British headmaster and curriculum.

They are amenable to letting kids sit in for a few days to see whether they like it or not.

I don't know of a better educational option for primary-level kids in greater Songkhla Town area.

I want my daughter to be completely bilingual and this school fits the bill perfectly for us.

The Thai Government Schools will always still be there if needed.

That's interesting. Actually my daughter is going to a private Thai school in Ranode now, but she'll be back at British Sunshine School next term break. It's a great resource for bilingualism and they have a great staff and curriculum, but it is only registered as a language school, which could create trouble down the line if she wants to go to apply at one of the top Thai government schools...

I am interested to know your impressions about the Rajabhat Demonstration School, as that is another option for me.
