Hi -

Against my better judgement, I've taken a teaching position for reasonable wages but long hours while we spend next year contemplating returning to states.

I am on a NonO based on marriage and 400k. It was a big hassle and I had to bring money over (not keen on Thai banks) - its my insurance policy to stay in country. Especially if the job goes south.

I've read some schools can't or won't process wp on NonO. If I want to work, it would be on a B.

The director stated it should not be an issue and perhaps easier. It should and I was encouraged.

My question is simply, is it possible for them to switch (kill) my extension to a non B visa?

I would rather not work thsn change to a B visa, especially a B extension!

✔✔ Is it possible to do without my signature or presence? Im a bit freaked out about the whole thing. TiT.

★ If things go pearshaped at school, being on the NonO will not affect my status here whatsoever correct? I will never NEED a letter of release to leave the country or for anything but perhaps another job (which won't happen).

Thank you.

You are the only one that can change the reason for your extension of stay (it is not a visa) and that can only be done by canceling the existing extension and applying for a new one at the same time.

Since you are on extension based upon marriage nothing that happens with your job effects it. Immigration does not even need to know that have a work permit and working unless you are using income from your work to get the extension and that is only needed when you apply for the extension.

There are schools that have been ill informed or think that a work permit can only be issued if you have a non-b visa entry. All that is required is non immigrant visa entry. There have been reports that some work permit offices say the same thing but that of course is not correct.

Thanks for that, it all squares with what I know UJoe.

I will place a note in my pp on the page of my extension and also inform them they are only authorized to make a wp and teaching waiver on my behalf. Period. Stay clear of the immigration office! ☺

Thank you

Your extensions are easier for the school if you remain on your marriage extension, ie less paperwork for them. In fact, the school will have no involvement whatsoever in your application for extension.

The application for extension of stay must be signed by you and you must be present at the immigration office for the submission of the application. If the school insists on filling in the application form TM.7 for you, do not sign it unless

  1. the form is filled in entirely in English and all information is correct
  2. near the bottom of page one, on the line "Reason(s) for extension", it says "to live with my Thai wife"

Thanks. No, I don't need an extension or anything. I'm good till Feb next year on my O.

I'm not worried they will extend, they cant. I'm into 2016 already and schools can no longer extend O.

I'm worried they go rougue and just go get me a B cause all teachers need B visas...!

My concern is if they want to lock me down or they don't know how to get a wp or waiver on my O they will take it upon themselves to kill my extension and put me on a B (no idea if that conversion could even be made).

The director seemed to understand and agreed should be non issue, easier?

Still, schools are crazy and incompetence looms large.

Thank you for the follow up.

Decent school, decent package. Too many hours.

As I wrote they cannot do anything with your extension. The also cannot get you B visa you have to that yourself at an embassy or consulate.

Just make sure a copy of your marriage certificate is attached to the work permit application. Some work permit offices also ask for an updated Kor Ror 2 from an Amphoe to prove you are still married.

Thanks, well aware visas come from outside the country. Concern about some sort of magic here that converts my extension to a B extension. Absolute worst way to be here.

Anyway, thx for tip on the cert and kr2!

There is absolutely no magic they can do to change the reason for your extension of stay (visas are not extended).

You are not authorized to (place a note) make changes in your passport, it could be void.
