Ramkhamhaeng student group opposes provision for unelected PM

BANGKOK, 22 May 2015 (NNT) - Students from Ramkhamhaeng University have submitted a petition that opposes the new provision allowing for an unelected Prime Minister as they claim that the provision will lead to further conflict.

The group handed the petition to Secretary of the NRC Affairs Committee Alongkorn Pollabutr, who committed to pass on the call to the CDC and the NRC. The group called for the new constitution to be written in line with democratic principles, which would entail having leaders that are chosen by the people to be their representatives. The provision allowing for an unelected official to assume the premiership would constitute a direct violation to the principles of democracy and therefore lead to further conflict.

In addition, the petition called for a fully elected Senate, as there is no concrete evidence that the current nominating system would guarantee a more ethical Senate than the chamber with all members being elected.

Thailand to review open sky policy
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Thailand is to review the open sky policy, eyeing to adopt conditional liberalisation.

Transport Minister ACM Prajin Juntong said Friday that air traffic required the management of flight frequency at airports and air traffic control.

The airspace starts to get congested, he said after a meeting with transport officials. If the situation remains this way, it might affect the quality of service and safety, he added.

Relevant departments are assigned to draft a new plan within September and the plan will be submitted to the Cabinet by the end of this year, he said.
