Key suspect in 1.6 billion baht KMITL embezzlement controversy arrested at airport

BANGKOK: -- The most sought-after key suspect in the controversial 1.6 billion baht embezzlement at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) was apprehended by police as soon as he embarked out of a THAI flight from London at Suvarnabhumi airport early Friday morning.

The suspect, Kittisak Muttujad, 32, was detained as he walked out of the plane after its landing at 05.45 am this morning.

The arrest came after Thai Interpol were alerted by the UK Interpol that the man they were asking for was returning to Thailand aboard Thai International Airline’s Flight TG 911 which would arrive at Suvarnabhumi airport at 05.45 am today.

A team of Thai Interpol, immigration, and economic crime suppression police was deployed at the airport with arrest warrant and apprehended him immediately after he alighted from the plane.

He was then escorted to the Crime Suppression Police Division for questioning this morning before being taken to the Royal Thai Police command for questioning by the commissioner Pol Gen Somyot Phumphanmuang.

Kittisak was accused of being a key man who could provide mystery in the controversial embezzlement of over 1.6 billion baht in cash from the KMITL’s bank accounts in Siam Commercial Bank’s Srinakarin branch.

Earlier the police have arrested eleven suspects who included the KMITL former executives and the former branch bank manager Songklod Sriprasong in the embezzlement conspiracy.

But a key suspect Kittisak fled to the UK.

Charges they face included falsifying documents to withdraw money from the institute and pretend that it was deposited in bank accounts. The fraud is alleged to have taken place between 2012 and 2014.

Has he flown first class at least? if not, why did steal so much money if he doesn't know how to enjoy it?

that would be the last time he would see the inside of an airplane
