I just received a payment from USA to my THB PayPal account and was shocked to see that they charged me 4,4% for receiving money. I must remember wront then but I definitely don't remember being charged anything before when receiving a payment into my PayPal.

So lets say I was to receive USD 10,000 to my PayPal. i would have to pay a USD 440 fee for that? Is this true?

Expect around half of that 4.4% was the low PayPal exchange rate. I just checked what the USD to THB PayPal exchange rate differential is in comparison to the Thai bank TT Buying Rate used for incoming wire transfers. Looking at the Thai baht rates on ThaiVisa for this minute in time (ThaiVisa shows Bangkok Bank TT Buying Rate) it was Bt33.35/USD...the PayPal Exchange Rate was Bt32.57/USD or 2.3% lower than than the Thai bank TT Buying Rate. Then I expect some other fees are added to rub salt into the low exchange rate which is basically an indirect fee.

Below is a snapshot of the PayPal USD to THB conversion I did a few minutes ago....and also a link/partial quote talking PayPal fees. Using PayPal or Western Union to send money internationally ain't cheap when the exchange rate (an indirect fee) and any direct fees are added up.

International payments:

There is a fee when you send a payment to someone in another country or if you receive a payment from someone in another country. Please note that exchange rate fees also apply if there is a currency conversion. The Fees section of the PayPal User Agreement has specific information. You can find the User Agreement by clicking Legal Agreementsat the bottom of any PayPal page.

I just did a wrap speed scan of the fees in the Legal Agreements PayPal document....fees upon fees at various percentages with fixed fee added in. Here a snapshot that talks 4.4% for Thailand if a commercial payment. The PayPal site has the answers you seek...total fees depends on how it was sent and how your received it, exchange rate, and a bunch of other smoke-and-mirror things to numb the brain.

Seriously and not meaning to provoke but does anyone actually use Paypal for anything other than buying on ebay or other sites.....??

As a Seller of Goods you are forced by there outrageous fees but using it to receive money is just bizarre

Thanks Pib for the info. I for sure don't want to pay them USD 440 for receiving my money.

And for you Chivas..I'm not using it by my own choice but the company that is paying me for my services is.

Fine then ensure that the Company are aware to enhance the payment to cover their choice of Payment Vehicle....
