I have had such a variation over the years, depends upon what jumped up custms goon is assessing it. Many items could be 10 % but office equipment is generally 30% or should be . An electric standing desk is going to totally confuse them as they will have no comprehension of what it is so on the customs declaration you should describe it as say just as a tall desk - up to you but soon as electric is mentioned they could be trying for 100%.

you never know you may get a good one an they charge you 20 or 30 %, the correct duty plus of course 7% VAT.

As for getting one made here then I guess you want a decent one, fit for purpose rather than something nailed together and lacquered over 'till it falls to bits ?

I wonder if it's possible to pre-pay the import duties?

I've done this with a lot of things I order direct from e-bay - the customs and import duties are part of the payment, so there is nothing to pay when it arrives.

The desk has "an electrically powered lift system." Having a Thai make something like this would be impossible.

If it breaks who is going to fix it,sometimes its best to keep things simple.

It is 20 % not 30 %

900+500=1400 USD

Lets say 50.000 Baht

20% tax=10.000 Baht

60.000: 7%=4.200

So tax about 15.000

Depending on the shipping method additional 400-2000 for the clearing. If per boat a bucket full of small charges and maybe the transport to you inside Thailand.

So my guess is total 20-25.000.

If the company would be so nice to make 2 invoices: one for the desk which is included in the shipment and a separate one for the shipping costs it would greatly help....if you get the hint.

Good Idea!

Of course if they can make the table 700 USD and the shipping 700 USD it would help further :-)

By the way: from which country does it come? If from the ASEAN members or Japan, Australia, China, South Korea and a few more than it might go under the trade free agreement. (for which you need the right documents for clearing and have it figured out before shipment).

Why don't you get adjustable desk chairs? I'm sure they have different types with different adjustments. I would understand if the desk tilted but but...................

Don't know why he doesn't buy said desk locally, our office in BKK, is full of them, I have one in my office, and they definitely got them locally, but just not sure where ? But they definitely didn't import them

$900 + $500 = $1,400

$1,400 X 33.9 THB/$ = THB47,460 (cost & freight)

THB 47,460 X 20% = THB 9,492 (duty)

THB 47,460 + THB 9,492 = THB 56,952 (cost & freight & duty)

THB 56,952 X 7% ~ THB 3,987 (VAT)

THB 56,952 + THB 3,987 = THB 60,939 (Total)

Rooo - the idea is not to use a chair. This is a standing desk, so you can stand and work.

Studies have shown that sitting at a desk all day is incredible bad for your health, posture, back, etc...

You have this exact desk at your office? It has electric motors so it rises to standing level?

Maybe you can ask at your office were they bought them?

+ some clearance fees.

Questions: the harbor fees on sea freight, are also added before tax?

Yes, plus clearance fees.

I'm not sure, but I would guess after duty abut before VAT. I don't handle our imports directly.

Also, depending on the terms, local delivery may not be included.
