We're about 50ks out of the main city ie no cable Mainly interested in documentaries, maybe some English speaking series, comedies, movies etc. Don't care about sport. I did here someone say for a farang the highest platinum package only way to go but don't want to commit to over 2000 thb a month. Anyone have any of the lesser packages? JohnC Posted June 11, 2015 Share Posted June 11, 2015 I have the gold package @ 1568 baht per month and quite happy with that as I don't watch sport, I enjoy History History 2, National Geographic, Lifestyle couple of explore channels, four movie channels, had this for nine years and see no reason to change. Like everything it's horses for courses and may not suit everyone but I am happy I don't do bars etc but socialise with friends with TV complimenting my lifestyle, not ruling it. There are some serials and movies, but I don't often find any worth watching. Matter of taste. Some people must like them Reception is always good unless you're in the midst of a major downpour. We're about 50ks out of the main city ie no cable The Truevisions signal is broadcast from Thaicom-5 Satellite, so as long as you can legally mount a small 75cm Ku-band dish that has a clear view of the southwest sky (no trees, building or other obstacles blocking true azimuth:238.3°, elevation angle: 60.3°) then all should be well. So, all that is required is a Sat Dish with an LNB, a single coax cable run to a Truevisions branded Sat Box Receiver connected to a TV (oh, and a pesky Truevisions billing account). There are usually several U.S. television series that appeal to us, including a number that they advertise as available for us to see within 24 or 48 hours of US broadcast. I also like US sports, especially college and pro football and it is nice to watch a live game. Henryford Posted June 12, 2015 Share Posted June 12, 2015 Yes i have the gold package which i think is more than adequate. The Platinum is quite a bit more cash for not many more channels IMO. People complain it's expensive but i pay 1650 a month with HD and the PVR (which is well worth getting). That's just over 1GBP a day, pretty cheap i think. Great for sport, movies, documentaries. What's lacking though is a decent news channel. The BBC channel is terrible and only reports on Africa. CNN is OK, at least it's in HD. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Once a year, True has a promotion that upgrades Gold to Platinum for the birthday month of the subscriber (after registration). Having had this occasional taste of Platinum, to me Platinum only has 1 additional channel that I would have liked to have all year round (BBC Lifestyle) - but not for 500 Baht/m more. In the context of Truevisions, what it means is that you can attach an external hard drive to their set-top-box, and record future programs from the machines built-in TV guide. Same as in the west, except the HD is not internal to the PVR... You have to buy the HD from True and it's about 3100 baht... I have the Platinum package and it serves my needs... Think I had a student phone person had to keep going back and checking with a third person for basic info on pricing etc. No idea how long it will take them to come out and connect. I watch the docos mostly and my son watch the kids channels which thankfully are mainly in English.
